Unfortunately, my parent's house was broken into a little while back and it's made us all a bit more security conscious. I wanted an additional lock for my front door but didn’t like the sliding or deadbolt type, as I have a PVC door and wanted the lock in the middle, rather than the top or bottom of the door, and I was worried that the bolts wouldn’t hold the fixing plates on with that style if it was given a good shove but wasn’t sure what the alternative could be – this product is the alternative.This item secures at 90 degrees to the inside of the frame, rather than fixing to the door. This means that if someone tried to force entry, the bolts fixing the plate to the door frame cannot be pulled out, and so the only way this lock could fail is if all 4 bolts sheered off, which would require considerably more force needed than simply pulling the bolts out with a deadbolt style lock. It is therefore considerably stronger and will do a much better job at preventing entry.Once in place, the lock is super easy and fast to lock/unlock. Its profile is also relatively small and discreet on the door and the silver looks stylish and not out of place with the rest of the door.I think this product is great, and it’s very sturdy. The only reason it’s not 5* for everything is that I found the fixing to take quite a lot of work. This is because my PVC door has a slight recess in the frame, meaning that the fixing plate needed to be raised out (I used a moldable plastic called polymorph, but you could use a thin bit of wood) so that it could be mounted at 90 degrees to the frame, otherwise the lock part would not be flush with the door when locked. The other thing is that there's basically no tolerance for error in fitting the lock, else when you come to clip the lock across it is either too close to the door and won’t shut, or will be too far away and there’ll be a gap – which should still hold, but if it’s a nice flush fit that makes contact it will make the lock more secure and can’t rattle.In my opinion, it’s worth the extra time/effort taken to fit this lock, which is good and strong, but it’s harder to fit than a deadbolt/sliding latch so it’ll likely take a bit of DIY.

My toddler learnt how to open my front door, my chain broke and this was a fantastic cheap safe option to prevent her escaping the house. A friend in stalled it quite quickly and easily for me. It looks quite nice and fits well. Keeps my kids safe and in the house and unwanted visitors out of the house.

I have ordered a similar product before which is what the image shows (brushed metal/ matte effect). This product is shiny metal and does not have the same finish as the product in the photo. This is a shame because this one doesn’t match the others in my house. I also specifically cancelled another cheaper order because it showed a shiny product and I ordered this believing it was the matte finish version.Aside from that the product functions as stated and is just as good as the others I own in terms of its use case.

It is very solid and nice looking lock, however the finish is not very human friendly: I have been injured my finger when first time I been try to open it - it has the sharp (kind a saw like) edges cut through my skin on the thumb finger. Now I am little bit more careful when opening this. I would like to advise the producer that the edges should be chamfered to make it much safer to use; even if it would make thing little bit more expensive than now.It is as well bit tricky to open: you have to pull it out and then move it to the side, but this is not the issue actually it is yet another safety feature.

My only criticism of this security item is its opening and closing. There is a design flaw. The top plate slides into place but there is no grip to stop your fingers from slipping. If you do not have enough strength due to arthritis in your hands to grip the front plate to block the door it can be awkward to use.I stuck a small piece of rough velcro at the top and bottom of the plate. Now it is easy to open and close.A great product but be aware prices vary on amazon for exactly the same thing.

The screws given in pack are absolutely terrible and very weak advise to buy your own cobalt screws for strength
