heck NO
we used these in a number of dishes. every time we used them we got sick, abdominal pain, and throwing up. I don't know what is in these, but I will not use them again! horrendous experience. I eat a very clean diet! Maybe it is too many chemicals...

Don't buy!
I bought this since it's nice to have dried onion. But when I made chili one day and poured in the fried onion with the meat I found long stringy looming pieces. I didn't really know what they were and I had noticed them before in my soup when I would use them. But before I would just find a few on my tongue. When I looked in the pot of chili I found a bunch of them. I pulled them out and tried to break them and they were tough. They wouldn't break down in the soup and if again find them on my tongue. I don't know what they are but they remind me of plastic. I only noticed them when moisture hit them.

Very convenient, excellent taste, organic
I use a lot of white onions in soups and stews, and I got really tired of peeling and chopping them. Since I had already had great success with Frontier Co-op’s dehydrated mixed vegetables, I anticipated no issue with their dehydrated onions, and my guess proved 100% correct. I have used these onions with equal success in soups, stews, casseroles, and my vegan taco filling. To re-hydrate these onions, I put them in a pot with a 1:2 ratio of onions to water (e.g. 1/4 cup onions to 1/2 cup water). I let them soak for about 5 minutes, then bring the water to a boil, turn down the heat, and simmer them for 10-15 minutes, until the onions are tender and only slightly al dente. I add extra water if the initial water is all soaked up before 10 minutes have passed. The onions expand to about 3-4 times their dehydrated size.According to the recommendations of master cooks—which has borne out as accurate in my own experience cooking with these onions—you only need 2 tablespoons of chopped dried onion to equal 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) chopped fresh onion, which is a ratio of 1:4. So if my recipe calls for 1 cup (16 tablespoons) of fresh, chopped onions, I substitute 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) of these dehydrated onions. These onions make an excellent addition to emergency and camping food supplies.I will definitely purchase these onions again in the future.

I like them so much I don't think I'll ever buy fresh onions again
These are a pantry staple and must have. Onions are very expensive where we live; especially during the winter months. I bought these to save money and also to have onions in the winter. I like them so much I don't think I'll ever buy fresh onions again. Being able to throw them in soup and never have to chop onions again is a bonus but I also rehydrate them by just pouring a little hot water on top and letting them sit a while. They're just like fresh onions except they're tastier. I use them in everything.

The best cooking "cheat!"
I love to use dehydrated onions when cooking. Keeping fresh onions on hand is a pain for me as they often go bad before I can use them all. Dehydrated ones are the perfect alternative. I purchased these after running out of another brand. Wow, what a difference! These are so much better, so much more flavorful, are organic, and are a much better price than the previous ones I was buying! I use these in soups, stews, baked beans, etc. Can't go wrong with these flavourful little things, and when stored properly, they last a very long time. Definitely satisfied with these and will buy more when I'm out!

The price point on this package was amazing. I can't dehydrate my own onions for the price I paid for these.
I always have dehydrated onions on hand, and I always buy a big container of them. The price point on this package was amazing. I can't dehydrate my own onions for the price! Great product, great price.Want a different taste? Get a pint mason jar and fill it full of these and put it waaaaaay up high in a kitchen cupboard so that it gets hot. Keep it there for 6 months to a year. Then fetch the onions down and notice that they're now a tan color. Open them up and take a smell. Notice that? TOASTED ONIONS!!! Just another stupid pet trick you can do with dehydrated onions.

Now I Only Buy Onions For Texture!
Love the stuff. Cheap, good. When added to stir-fried foods, they add a ton of flavor. It's like a cheat code for cooking, and now I might only buy fresh onions for their texture rather than their flavor. These are great when adding to soup, too. If you're going to buy this in bulk, consider some spice bottles like the ones I've linked below. You can store your spices and herbs fresher for longer this way, without clunky zip-ties, clothes pins, tape or food storage boxes. It also makes your kitchen look much nicer, plus it makes using your spices more convenient - especially when you're done using them, being able to just twist on a lid has made me so much lazier - and I absolutely love it! =) Epica 18-Oz. Terrific aroma, texture & flavor
I didn't know what to expect with this item. So I was pleased at the odor when I cut into the bag. They smell great. They re-hydrate just fine. Like it says - about 30 minutes.Using them: I was surprised at how small the bits are. At first I thought they'd grow as re-hydrated. They did, but not a lot. So I would call them a little bigger than bits, but not pieces. Which is perfect for when you need bits, or don't care.My first use was with diced potatoes. I knew I was going to overcook the onions if I started with them and added the potatoes. So I saved the little onion bits for the last couple minutes. And that worked out for my preferences. The onions were sweet, flavorful, and had a really nice hydrated texture. The 2nd time I tried to replicate my potatoes and onions. And I put the onion bits in to the frying pan too soon. I obliterated them - cooked the hydration out entirely, and had these black flakes in the pan with virtually no flavor. I cooked them to death. Potatoes were fine.I can't say whether these onions come in different sizes depending on random circumstances at Frontier Co-op. Doubt it. But I saw another review describe bigger onion pieces than I got. I like these little bits. And since I'm wanting to experiment with dehydrating veggies & fruits I'll make my own bigger sizes if I think I need that.I give this enthusiastic thumbs up. Very pleased with these dried/dehydrated onions.
