Q: Is the mug microwave save?

No. Absolutely, positively, emphatically NO! This is a Smart Mug with electronics and a Lithium battery. This would be no less dangerous than putting your smart phone, smart watch, laptop, or tablet in the microwave.

Q: Does the mug 2 have issues with the ceramic flaking like yhe original mug?

Not sure if this is any help, based on the assumption that the original flakes, but I am going on my second year with this mug - daily use - since Christmas day 2018. My cup still looks like it did when it was given to me. I am a straight black coffee drinker. Only use the cup for coffee. Never any additives. And always make sure the bottom of the cup is completely dry before I put it back on charge.

Q: Can you safely make tea in the cup using boiling water without damaging the inside surface?

Yes. You can pour boiling or near boiling water into the cup. The water will then cool naturally until it reaches the settings on your cup. Note the max temperature you can set the cup to is a safe drinking temperature typically less than the temperature most recommended for seeping tea leaves.

Q: I bought the 14 oz. The diameter is too large for my arthritic hands. Is the 10 oz diameter appreciably less?

I have no Trouble handling the 10 oz. I'm age 90 and have an arthritic right thumb.
