Pearl Jam's best album
Pearl Jam's best album - and one of my favourite albums of all time.

Remix
Thought the remixed Ten was not as good as the original version. Sounded almost empty & hollow, I want the wee bits of lead flung in. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Still give the album 5 star, cause it's a dorkkin classic.

Still better than nevermind!
Whilst Nirvana's Nevermind may have been Grunge's diving moment and its death knell, Pearl Jam's - Ten has stood the test of time well due to its songs sung beautifully in a 3rd person view through the eyes of a jounalistic like reporter by eddie Vedder which reverberates nicely with the bass and guitars of Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard which brings the life out of songs such as "Even Flow" , "Once", "Alive" and the classic "Jeremy".If i was on a desert island i would make this my number one album to take with me as even on its own it plays like a greatest hits album.

Only for collector's
Bought this condition stated very good. The disc is fine but the case is awful marked scuffed and ripped. I'm glad I only bought it to add to the collection I have several other copies the album itself is awesome but you don't need to be told that.

Surely they can do better than this?
Firstly let me say that I'm a massive fan of Pearl Jam and I think the original Ten is a masterpiece. However, this edition has major problems. Firstly the first disc, the remastered disc, sounds worse than the original pressing. This is due to the disc being mastered about 4 dBa louder than the original, and to do this the dynamic range had to be compressed. This results in the complex layering being merged together, sounding flat and indistinct. If this is remastering then so is turning up the volume on my hi-fi and putting a pillow in front of the speakers! The second disc the "remixed" disc is more interesting and features a clearer, simpler and less layered sound when compared to the original versions. Are the tracks better? No. Are they worse? No, just different.Unfortunately this second disc is mastered just as loud (or 'hot') as the first disc, though admittedly it gets away with it more than the first disc does (due to it's relative simplicity). However this second disc is not what 'The Freedom Sessions' is to 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy', the remixed disc is just a remixed disc rather than alternate versions. So if you don't have the original, then I'd recommend you buy that instead of this edition. If you have the original then I'd recommend that you go for the next edition up that adds a DVD-Video of their MTV Unplugged session, but keep hold of your original!

How???
Pearl Jam's Ten is by far one of my favorite albums. If we were going on that alone, this would get 5 stars. However I'm reviewing the re-released redux edition. The first disc contains the remastered release of Ten, and the second disc contains a remix done by Brendan O'Brien.Personally, I bought this rerelease primarily for the remastered first disc. The second disc was a great bonus for me, and the tracks sound great! However I still prefer the roughness of the original album. The second disc was more of a curiosity for me and I doubt I'll listen to it ever again. That brings me to the first disc... Wow. They really screwed up royally on this one. One of the best tracks and biggest hits for the band - Alive - has been ruined. At around the 27 second mark, the sound gets muffled and at around the 1:20 mark the song gets clear and fine again. And this screwup is obvious! I noticed it while in my car with terrible 10 year old Mazda Protege speakers! For pretty much this reason alone, I can't recommend this rerelease. The original album can be found for under $5.00 new, and really is superior, since Alive sounds fine.If you're buying this rerelease for the remix disc only, then go for it. However, of you were buying it for the remastered first disc, save your money. What could have been a great package has been ruined by one obvious sloppy mistake.
