Disappointing but still worth the read
I was disappointed with this book, it seemed to be an "all hail Barry" book from an author who seemed to idolize him. I wanted to learn about the history of his racing life, instead it felt like a story of how great the author thought he was and what great fun etc etcThere was no easy to follow order like most biographies, kind of jumped around in no logical date order.Wasn't particularly objective about his team mates and his competitors, particularly the American invasion. On a positive I learned a lot of things I didn't know, e.g. all about the reason riders rode in the non-world championship events, the brown envelopes, the tax man's deal with Barry - all really interesting stuff. The writing style was good, definitely not boring or over-wordy - straight talking. The factual and personal information was insightful.Overall worth the read, I just think it was a bit of a missed opportunity but I would recommend you buy it and read it - and you will enjoy it I expect, overall I did.

A joy to read
I can't think of anyone better to contribute to a biography of Barry Sheene than great friend Steve Parrish. The enthusiasm for Barry is clear throughout, it is full of old stories. A real positive is the interviews with the family which really add depth to the character analysis. As someone who really knew Barry well, Parrish can provide a real insight into his character. It is sad to read the initial chapter on Barry's illness, it is clear that Parrish really misses his friend. This is a really well written account of Barry Sheene covering all the important points of his career and is well worth reading. The final part of the career is covered a little quickly. I would like to have seen a little more detail on the switch to Yamaha and in particular on his truck racing but that is a minor point.

Barry Sheene, motorcycle racing legend.
A very good book by Steve Parrish and Nick Harris about the late great motorcycle racer Barry Sheene, with contributions by Stephanie, his wife, and Maggie, his sister, plus quite a few others who knew him.It is a very good account of his life on and off the track.I saw him racing way back in 1982, at the tail end of his career as a racer. He was a fantastic racer and one hell of a personality on and off the track.I read the book over a couple of days, a cracking read!

Great read
Had the paperback version of this for a while and finally got it for my kindle. One of those reads that just brings that little bit of sunshine in to your life when you read it and for those of a certain age, of which I am one, can remember the antics that Barry used to get up to

Great read
Excellent book and obviously written by people who knew the man and experienced the good and bad which we all have in us. All however loved him and still do and that says a lot about Barry.
