Opened my eyes to the reality of addictive to behaviors not just addiction to drugs and alcohol. Helped me understand how anger, power, food, and other things can have the same patterns as drug addiction.

This book gave a unique perspective of the mysterious and confusing world of chemical addiction. Once we know the tricks, they're not a mystery. I often refer to the guilt card, shame card and wish card tricks as well as other "slight of hand" illusions when describing the deceptive techniques the addict uses to feed the need. A very effective tool to promote a change in perspective. I've passed many copies along throughout my journey through recovery.

This book makes sense of the world when you are living with an addict! If the addicts would just read it and then get help....! Everyone that deals with an alcoholic in any fashion should read this book to gain an understanding of why they behave the way they do and why we buy into their behavior in inappropriate ways. This book helped me see why he treats me the way he does and how alcoholism is a disease that affects the whole family.

The best book I have read to date that describes the behavior of the chemically dependent. Purchased several more copies for friends and families. Don’t pass this one up just because it is small and a bit dated.

If you deal with difficult people this is the perfect book to read. It is very enlightening.

Wow! This book was very enlightening. Every page helped me to recognize the truth behind living in a relationship with someone who is chemically impared. So much of the information is what we hear or read over and over, but this book puts it all together in an approachable format. Very useful tool to add to the information arsenal of those studying or living with addiction issues.

This little book without doubt destroys any of the myths associated with chemical dependency both on a personal an professional level. It considers chemical dependency from the position of substances we put into our bodies that change our mood and those we manufacture from our thoughts and behaviours. it also explores strategies used by people with addictive personalities and behaviours to prolong their disease; and highlights the dangers of being an enabler when in a relationship with them. This book will save lives.

Fantastic book, well written and many helpful tidbits on how to deal with the issues of those and addictions
