The Hot Line: How the Legendary Trio of Hull, Hedberg and Nilsson Transformed Hockey and Led the Winnipeg Jets to Greatness

A gem
A really fine book, that was a delight to read. I've been talking up the WHA Jets to anyone who will listen for decades, but there were plenty of great stories I'd not heard before (e.g. Serge Bernier accidentally picking a fight with tough, tough Kim Clackson, because he saw the "son" part of the nameplate and thought he was lining up a "Nilsson"). Hull, Hedberg, and Nilsson never will get the credit they deserve for revolutionizing hockey all those years ago. Probably most readers will be over 50 and will have spent some time in Winnipeg, but that's not Kirbyson's fault. If others chance onto the book and crack it open, they'll be pulled along by the story, and will learn a lot. Kudos to Glen Sather for contributing the forward, acknowledging that he built the awesome 80s Oilers teams on the model of the 70s Jets.

A fun book and a great read!
Excellent book, well worth reading. Lots of great stories of the legendary Hot Line, beginning with the Jets' victory over the vaunted Red Army team. A real trip down memory lane about the World Hockey Association, the Winnipeg Jets, and the transformative role of this great hockey trio. Bobby, Ulf and Anders played hockey the way it was meant to be played -- with skill, talent, toughness. The Jets' role in facilitating the influx of skilled European players, thus changing the way hockey was played in North America, receives too little credit. This book properly delivers that credit, and is a timely and welcome historical account of 1970s era hockey played in the rebel league.
