Review: Great Book - Great Book Review: A humane yet frank critical analysis of "Art". - This book is a good news for all readers who search for the true meaning of 'Art'. One might not agree with what Tolstoy has written but 'what is art' tells what art should be but is not. Tolstoy has researched his ideas well and does not hesitate a bit to criticize giants from different fields of art. Lastly, the role of the artist is also explored in order to present a balanced interpretation of art.

Iconoclastic attack on art & literature.
Tolstoy takes a Christian viewpoint in assessing accepted masterpieces of art, literature & music & finds very few of them worthy of the name of Art. Polemical but unconventional perspective.
