I installed this in one afternoon. While I gave it 5 stars for ease of installation, it’s not easy for a beginner. I’ve got mechanical repair experience, so it was easy in that everything fit like it should and all the extra parts were there that you should replace at the same time.I recommend watching a YouTube video first (there are several out there).Having the pinion gear in the kit was great since I hadn’t realized that was worn badly also.

If you need to replace either of the gears, it's better to go ahead and replace both. I got this and had it swapped without much trouble. It was harder getting the mower deck unhooked and moved out of the way than it was to swap these gears.

Turns right no problem at all but left turns are now very limited. The gears don’t have as much travel as the original part did and now is limited to about 3/4 of the left turn travel

Just installed. Ask me again after mowing season is over.

Make sure you order parts for your specific John Deere model and you won't go wrong. There are several YouTube videos that show how to remove and replace these parts. It took me only 45 minutes to complete the task because I viewed those "How To" videos several times while I waited for the parts to arrive.

Product arrived promptly. Install was straight forward and not difficult. After install John Deere D170 with 350+ hours steers just like new, maybe even easier to turn. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
