Knowing what words mean
The words we use are so important and it can be really tricky to help children understand what lots of the words they hear and words they should use mean. As a parent and educator I've found the whole series so helpful in giving me the language to explain what is often complicated terms. We found the whole series so informative Families, Equality and Democracy. Each title is penned by a different author who holds expertise in the subject being written for but the series is brought beautifully together by the fun and vibrant illustrations of Paulina Morgan. A brilliant series that I highly recommend.

Interesting book but for older children and not the youngest like the book implies!
An ABC Of Equality is an interesting book which aims to show even the youngest children that everyone should be treated equal, whoever they are and wherever they come from.I found this an intriguing sounding book and was pleasantly surprised with what the book contained. I liked the idea of an A to Z but didn't know how that would be possible on such a specific topic, it does work though! Each page has a large capital letter on one side and on the other there is a brief description of what the word means. I like this layout as it is not too busy and easy to see the idea of the word through pictures and words. Each description is done in a simplified and child friendly way which makes even the more complicated words in the book seem a very understandable concept. The illustrations in the book are great to keep children engaged and interested in what is happening on each page and as the concept of the book is equality there are many diverse people shown throughout which is great for children to see. Although this book claims to show even the youngest children about equality I personally would not say that it would work with really young children. I wouldn't read it to any children under four as I feel it would go straight over their heads! Even with the simplest of descriptions they are still at an age that they believe they are the most important person so I think trying to get them to empathise and learn about so many different diversities and shows of equality is a bit overwhelming and quite confusing! If it was in story form I think it would be different but as it is as effectively a list I think they'd get bored pretty quickly.Overall I think this is a great book for primary school aged children and would be great to show the range of different people that there are in our countries and across the world but maybe not for the youngest children as the description implies.

Beautiful and important
This book is simply amazing. Beautiful striking and inclusive illustrations accompany the simple yet comprehensive definitions of important concepts in a way that is accessible and understandable to young children. As a parent and as a librarian I struggle to find books which are suitable for young readers and help parents to start conversations from a very young age. This book is a perfect example of how talking about important things does not need to be difficult and how we can start the conversations as early as possible. Plus, the illustrations are bold, perfect for catching the eye and maintaining the attention of younger readers. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a free ecopy of this book.

Cute and informative
This is a cute and informative book that's easy to read and very clear.I love the colourful pages and illustrations that bring every page to life. The text is clear and easy to understand and will be great for younger readers. This book would be a great starter for conversations with young readers as an introduction to certain topics. But I also feel like this would be good for any age group, although the writing is simplistic due to being aimed at younger people, the message is still the same and it would be a great way to start conversations with all ages.

An interesting book, creates conversation - read with an adult
I really enjoyed this thought provoking book. As an adult I thought the words chosen for the A-Z were interesting. The ideas inside the book are important and really reflect modern society as it currently stands. As a teacher I would include this book in my classroom.I feel that is book deals with some very complex issues, when reading with children it would definitely create more ‘Q for questions’ which would be great to explore. A criticism would be that some of the definitions are very complex so this wouldn’t ever be a read alone book. Those who hate this book should probably read the page ‘B is for beliefs’ again as it says quite clearly that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.I previously read the A-Z of Feminism and felt that it was more accessible/straightforward.The illustrations in the book are wonderful, colourful and interesting.

A great book about all aspects of equality for young children
I am ecstatic for this book. It is beautifully illustrated and very well written. My little one is quite engaged with this book. It’s a great size, not too big or heavy. It is well versed and showcases all the different aspects of equality. A great introduction for those who want to educate young children about all types of equality. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
