The Back Sac - Adjustable Back Rest & Body Support Cushion

I, originally, purchased this because it looked unlike any other support cushion I'd ever seen.I'm glad I was drawn to it and took the chance, because I am absolutely thrilled with the Back Sac's performance!!!It seems that as well as being quite comfortable, its ability to conform to the shape that is needed is amazing.I was hoping that it would outlast any of the other support cushions that I've relied on all of these years.The Back Sac did a great job of supporting my back for 6 months. Then the materials, with which it was made, started to give out. The stitches that held the velcro separated and created an opening, and the plastic material (faux leather) pulled away from it's lining and peeled off.Granted, pillows that do the same type of support, also take a toll and wind up squashed - never to give the same amount of support ever again. And to be fair, although it looks shabby, it still gives the support that it did at the onset.I just wish that the Back Sac was made with more durable materials, that would hold up for a longer time.

This cushion really does fill in the "gap" for your low back, for example, if you are sitting in a recliner and there is a space between your low back and the back of the chair. But, because I have inflammatory arthritis that affects my low back, this cushion is actually more of an irritant than a help to me. I can't find the instructions that came with it or I'd return it. HOWEVER, if you don't have tenderness in your back, and want to use this to keep from straining your back, then I can see it would really be a help. When I first put it behind my back, I think it's great, but in only a few minutes the pressure causes pain because the cushion does conform to your back. Unfortunately, if you have inflamed joints that hurt with pressure, this might not be for you.As of 12/9/13, I am updating this review from 3 to 4 stars. After experimenting with removing some air, I have to say this works better than I originally thought. Sometimes it just depends on where and how I am sitting, but I think it's an improvement over any ordinary cushion. At this point, I would not return it. In fact, two members of my family tried it out and liked it so much (one has inflammatory arthritis as well), that I ended up ordering two more for them.

I gave this a try in my new Forester & it wasn't a success. I think this could work better in a stationary item such as a chair or a sofa but in the car it shifted back & forth & was a distraction from my driving. It's a good idea but you have to have the right place for it to be helpful. I returned mine because it is too expensive to keep & not be able to use it in the car. The quality seemed OK & I could figure out how to use it.

While this sac takes a fair amount of trial and error to find the right amount of inflation for given situations, once I hit upon the right amount I really like it. It fits against the small of my back, better than some wider pillows that I find too bulky. A lot of pillows are too big, even at the lowest inflation level I find them uncomfortable. With the slightest bit of inflation this one works well. I can use it under my knees when my feet are up or behind my neck on our couch that has a short back with no neck support. It would be nicer if it had an automatic intake valve instead of having to reach inside the cover, find the "beach ball" inside, and manually blow it up. Because of that I only gave it four stars, but for comfort and flexibility I think it is really good.

I had high hopes for this, but ultimately it did not meet my expectations. I think the culprit is a hole somehow, it clearly loses air over time and I needed to keep blowing it up. While I liked the fact that it's customizable in terms of air-amount, it is also really difficult to find that "just right" amount of air that your back wants. Combine that will having to continiously blow it up, and it just because too much of a hassle. I have not tried any other back products, so I don't know how it measures up to anything else, but after 2 or 3 months, I stopped using this and it's now collecting dust somewhere in my car.

I have been looking at and trying various sorts of low back supports in an attempt to relieve my sciatic. The problems I have with it both cause pain and my entire leg to go completely numb in almost any seated position. After many attempts I decided to try this basic 'bag of air' which seemed almost to simple to work that well. I was wrong.I started by simply using this when I was sitting on my couch to watch TV or work on my computer and discovered my leg was no longer going numb. I then decided there might be other places it would be great, such as the car, also worked well. Because it deflates into a very small profile it's perfect for bringing on an airplane for both a back support or use as a pillow. I've even used it as a foot rest. I've placed it between my knees when I lay on my side to keep my spine straight.The bottom line is this thing works great and has many uses. My wife even decided to sit with it since it was already on the couch and as of today I'm ordering THREE more. Without question the most cost efficient, effective and comfortable back support I've found. Try it, you won't be disappointed and like me, you will probably find many other great uses for it.

I could not get this back rest to work for my petite, short-backed frame. Depending on how much I inflated it, it was either non-supportive or quite uncomfortable - I never found a "sweet spot". In addition, it smells HORRIBLE (like cheap fake leather) even after airing it out for several days. Sadly returned as I was hoping to find something to take on an upcoming trip with me.
