The Dawn of Pro Stock: Drag Racing's Fastest Doorslammers 1970-1979

Great book for Pro Stock fans
I grew up as a drag race fan during the heyday of S/S and the genesis of Pro Stock. This book does a great job of documenting the rapidly-evolving door slammer scene of the mid-to-late sixties that culminated in heads-up P/S racing, and early A/FX efforts that developed into the F/C class. It does a good job of balancing thorough stories of the "Big 4" (Jenkins, Sox & Martin, Nicholson, and Landy) with coverage of an extensive list of other drivers and teams that populated the S/S and P/S fields in the 60's and 70's. Lots of great pics, some color and some b&w. If you're a drag racing fan, and this was an era you remember fondly - you need to have this book in your collection. If it was before your time, this is an easliy understandable history of seminal events that launched professional drag racing as we know it today.

Worthy addition to your library
I love these kind of books. Reminds me of what I know and have seen about Pro-Stockers, and plenty of new info and stories I never heard. Just a warning for those Black and White snobs: the photos in the book are about 50/50 color vs. B&W. Detailed captions on most of the photos put you right there

Great book on under appreciated pro class of drag racing
In the context of pro class drag racing, this is probably the best (only?) book on this exciting class. As a person who grew up lusting after muscle cars and factory backed race cars, I love reading about this era of pro stock drag racing. Today's sanctioning bodies obsessive attitude toward marketing and field equality has left a field of cookie cutter cars. This book effectively documents the birth of factory backed "pro" muscle car drag racing. Highly recommend it.

Required reading!
This book is outstanding in my opinion. Great pictures and great stories are contained in this book. It’s mandatory reading for any pro-stock fan.

Great photography,but numerous typographical errors.
I'm not sure if it's indicative of books printed in China, but despite the great photos, there are numerous errors in the verbiage; underneath the pics,as well as in the text. Mr. Reyes is very knowledgeable on this subject, and it's almost as if he wasn't allowed to proof-read this work. I grew up during this era,and while the memories from the pics were great, reading it caused some consternation.
