Henry Bell Metal Wild Bird Seed Feeder

This is such a great bird feeder that we bought a second. I bought the first to replace yet another feeder that had broken - those with plastic tubes break so easily especially as the plastic ages. The Henry Bell Metal Feeder is, as it says on the tin, metal. The tube is a metal mess. It is obviously stronger, and more environmentally sound. It has a really easy mechanism for refilling but the most important feeder is that it is so much more stable. Yesterday our crow [yes crow!] tried to feed from it and it still hardly swung. The stability results is considerably less seed being thrown onto the ground and, consequentially, a huge reduction in wasted seed. The cost of the feeder will be rapidly recouped in reduction in seed bills. The added bonus is that the birds squabble less when using the feeder probably because it can serve six birds at the same time easily. Highly recommended.

I had a standard mesh feeder for sunflower hearts and was lucky enough to attract a a small flock of Goldfinches and Redpolls. They were emptying the whole feeder daily, but I noticed a substantial amount just dropped on the ground and was actually killing the lawn. I bought this feeder as the mesh is much finer and the seeds can't fall through. I also liked the tray and circular perch on the base to catch seeds that did fall from the feeding ports. Its too narrow for larger birds to land on. I was quite concerned that after switching the feeders over that only a few birds turned up, but after 3 days all the birds are back and when all the feeding ports are occupied, others gather and eat off the catch tray so sometimes get 7 or 8 birds on it. The big plus is that there is no seed loss and despite the numbers of birds its now only half a feeder full per day. Excellent product design and well worth the money

Easy to open and clean multiple feeding ports and good perches

It arrived well packaged, but despite this was a bit dented on one side. I didn’t bother returning as it does not affect the feeder at all. I’ve hung in my apple tree and I’m hoping the tray at the base will help cut down on the mess - time will tell. I also cannot see any way of cleaning this easily, as only the lid comes off. Again we will see how it cleans in time

I prefer metal feeders to plastic and this one is excellent. I replaced a copper one recently for this and I like the saucer at the bottom which catches the seed keeping the garden free of debris. The fine mesh tube keeps the sunflower hearts together securely. As I write this I am wondering if it would be also suitable for fat nibbles as the birds could peck little bits through the mesh grating?Any way it has only been up on my bird station for a week but already it has been enjoyed!Also I think it will be easy to clean , which I do each time it needs filling up.The only minor gripe I have is that the top sits on the tube and cannot be secured down, however I'm sure something could be done by the buyer if you don't like Squirrels having their share.Overall a nice feeder made well for the price. I might even get another at a later date.

Really happy with this, looks neat, the design is really clever and is made of quality materials. Looking forward to the birds getting used to it and visiting it.

birds love this, well made nice finish, far superior to plastic, squirrels won't destroy this any time soon, saucer on bottom catches loose seed and birds feed from this too, recommended
