Wikipedia: The Missing Manual

page what?
apparently a final review of this book was never made because a serious problem exists. through the book are many see page references, perhaps by necessity or through poor organization. In any case none of these page references is correct because each one states, and I quote see page (xx). i am sure that the word processing program has a function to provide for the correct page references instead of "xx" but it is apparent that in the final draft this was never run!! So do not buy this book unless you enjoy a constant headache. youtube to the rescue!

Mislabeled book
Very disappointing book, far from being any kind of manual, missing or otherwise. I found useful only a few things at the beginning - the rest seems to be mostly about resolving disputes, vandalism and some such. These are important issues, obviously, but the book should have been called 'Cooperation, not confrontation in Wikipedia'.Only in the Appendix the author adds a few additional useful hints how to proceed. My goal, BTW, is not to create new articles but to slightly modify existing ones.I managed to make minor changes in my brother's (Jan Nemec, the Czech film director) article dealing with a 2014 controversy following instructions in the book.I do not like the book and it is definitely not a general Wikipedia manual. It is, however somewhat useful.

The Most Valuable manual for anyone wanting to actually create and edit a Wikipedia entery
One thing that most newbies face when adding or editing a Wikipedia article is the fact that there is no wysiwyg editor for entering and formatting your entry. One must enter all formatting code. You can save a 2010 MS Word in Wikipedia and then finalize it by editing that code which is where this book becomes your essential guide.

INVALUABLE - The Bible of Wikipedia
Invaluable. Until something newer and/or easier to read comes along, this is THE BIBLE of Wiki-ing. I'd be lost without it. Comprehensive and accurate. I bought one for the office and one for home.

Future editors, read this!
Great book for people tempted to contribute their own resources and knowledge to Wikipedia. I learned a lot from it. The Kindle edition was great -- good table of contents, easy to find specifics.

Still stonewalled
Manual arrived whole and fast. It answers all questions I can answer without it, but it doesn't tell me how to communicate with _people_ at WP!

Incredible manual
This text was far better than I was expecting. For some time, I had wondered why there wasn't a proper manual (a physical paper one) that could help with learning about Wikipedia editing. But there was, I just hadn't found it, and this manual does the job and goes beyond the basic need. It isn't the easiest of reads, but no book on this type of subject can be, as it gravitates towards the programming world, but no more than it needs to. Highly recommend.

Comprehensive and useful manual
This is a very useful book for anyone setting out to contribute to the phenomenon that is Wikipedia. It caters for the absolute beginner, right through to arcane matters of dispute resolution. In between, one realises the extraordinary amount of thought that has gone into the development of Wikipedia. I found it very useful in preparing my first article. It doesn't contain anything not available on the Wikipedia Help pages, but the book format is easier to use. In its nature, Wikipedia is subject to change, so this book published in 2008 does not always reflect current practice, which is why it gets four stars instead of five.

Okay but not exactly missing
I bought this book as I found wikipedia's web-based documentation a bit tedious, and used so much screen space that even on a two-screen system, it got in the way of my work.I have spent the past three months developing a Mediawiki system - a wiki system based on the same software as wikipedia. However, this book doesn't ever get past the public user interface. As such it has proved to be almost useless to me. For example, it covers article templates in only the most basic manner; it doesn't really even get into advanced editing; and never mentions plugins, multiple language support, third party editors, security... etc etc. Any reasonably competent web develper or technical author will figure out how to make and edit wiki articles quite quickly without this book. One other thing - the book falls apart! Yes, despite its use of "RepKover" binding, the pages are simply falling out all over. So far, about half of the index pages are floating around loose in the back of the book. Useless! If you are new to wikipedia, and to editing wiki articles, then this book has a lot to offer - even if 99% of it is already available free in the wikipedia help system. If you are developing a wiki system and need to know what's going on at the server end of it, then give ths book a miss.

Gelungenes Handbuch

Missing letters, words and parts of sentences in text!!!
Please have the book checked. There are missing letters, words and even parts of sentences missing in the text! I would love to read the book, but it is very distracting to continually add the missing content with my mind.
