A great buggy!
This is an amazing buggy. It is FAST out of the box, and can easily be a speed demon with a battery upgrade. I bought this for my son, who got it as his introduction to off road hobby R/C cars. If you're interested in this, keep in mind it is not a toy. These are designed for enthusiasts that have a basic understanding of mechanics and a desire to spend as much time working on their cars as they do racing them. Redcat has a strange reputation in the racing world, and many people seem to enjoy bashing their quality and durability. I've owned several of them and like them a lot.Out of the box this will run, although the battery that comes in the buggy is weak and doesn't last long. They seem to put cheap batteries in the ready to run (RTR) vehicles, probably to keep the cost down. The charger that comes with the car is equal to the battery- basically useless. This car is brushless and capable of a high quality LiPo battery- and with one in it the buggy really screams. One thing to note, the buggy comes with a NiMh battery, but the ESC comes programed for the LiPo. LiPo batteries can not be run down below a certain point or they cannot be recharged. The ESC monitors the voltage and when it gets to the lower level stops driving. It's a great feature and necessary for a LiPo battery. Sadly with the NiMh flooring the accelerator draws a lot of power, and the ESC will shut down thinking the battery is dead. If you're going to run the NiMh battery you need to change the ESC settings. This buggy came with good instructions for Redcat- but they don't tell you anything about programing the ESC. Fortunately you can get on You Tube and watch someone walk you through the programing. It's simple if you know what you're looking at, but without the video it would be impossible. The radio that comes with this car is top notch and works great. The range is amazing and its needed because when this takes off it goes a long way in no time. We run in the middle of three baseball fields and can loop all the way around them all without walking. Unless you flip over, which can happen. The suspension is good, but isn't as good as you can buy. It's easily upgradeable if and when you decide it's necessary. Almost everyone I've talked to changes the stock oil in their shocks to 80 weight. It's heavier and makes the suspension stiffer. The shock towers are aluminum and bend way too easily. On the plus side you can bend them right back, which means you don't have to replace them over and over, but I found it annoying. These too can be replaced with a heavier aluminum or carbon fiber depending on your preference that eliminates the problem.Over all, if you're looking to get into hobby R/C, this is a fun buggy. It's ready to go as it is, and you can upgrade 90% of it if you're interested. It's a blast to drive and will jump almost everything. You'll have a hard time finding a better 4x4 brushless buggy in this price range.

Outstanding value for a starter RC Buggy
Wow. This is a fantastic starter car! I bought my son a less expensive buggy for his birthday after reading good reviews. That one has been fun, but has some limitations and needs frequent repairs due to plastic parts (as we expected). This one was nearly twice the price, but I bought it so I could "ride along" and have a spare to give my son while his was being repaired. That turned out to be a great choice! The Tornado EPX Pro came with lots of aluminum parts, including the shock tower and center longeron. All the electronics are waterproof, and the differentials are entirely enclosed. I ran it through my yard, on the street, and through some snow for about 20 minutes. Snow and grass were literally packed under the shell, covering everything except the ESC fan (see photos). And it had zero problems. A low setting on the heat gun and paying attention to the drip path (to avoid pooling water in the electronics), and it's as good as new.So far, I haven't taken the Tornado to a real course, so I haven't tested it jumping, yet. But I have run it for another 20 minutes on a dirt field. It's very fast for having a stock 3500mAh LiPo, and very responsive. The steering servo is fairly quick, and centers properly. The included radio has both steering and throttle adjust, and steering d/r (to set the width of the servo response). I wish it had a throttle limiter on the controller to ease the learning curve, but that just means I have to be more careful while I gain experience.I'm quite happy with this buggy, and would recommend it as a starter car for those who are not interested in constant repairs or upgrades. My son's car is great for learning how to build (and rebuild), and learning about upgrades, but that naturally comes at a price of downtime and cash out of pocket. The Tornado is a fantastic vehicle for the less tinkering inclined.**EDIT**I've seen a few reviews and concerns about the battery. As most have said, get rid of the stock charger and spend $30-$50 on a good, basic charger that supports putting the batteries in storage mode. I also suggest getting a LiPo bag for use while storing *and* charging. They're not too expensive, and can potentially save your home and your body.I charge my batteries on an old steel cookie sheet in a purpose-made fire resistant LiPo bag. My charger has an alarm for both temperature and completion, and charges my son's NiMH batteries really well.Do NOT skimp on battery safety. LiPo batteries can quite literally blow up if you mistreat them or short them out. Fortunately, it only takes a little care to be safe with them.

Excellent unit!
The reasons why I bought this car are three: 1) Probably fastest for the money 2) R2R -Ready to race (everything is included) 3) I love the aggressive look of this car. I do have to mention that I had to return the first unit I received because of bad ESC. The car is so much fun and it is very quick.Just ordered some wheels and street tires to get better grip. Very good quality product. I was going to get the Traxxas Bandit (Brushed) but at the end it is more expensive and slower. I would say the Traxxas is more resistant and tougher to break. For me, it was an easy decision.
