1000 pages of theory for about $50
Good quality book for the price. I laminated mine and doubt t'll fall apart anytime soon. Though Amazon did drop it, folding the first 22 pages and the cover.Print quality seems fine to me. All diagrams (tons of them) look clear, text isnt blurry. For $50, it's great. Though, wait for the next edition if you're wanting LLM AI stuff. None of that here really.

Gold standard for video game AI
This is the most thorough, well-researched, and clear book on video game AI. Its expensive but its text book size for a fraction of textbook cost. The print is not great but that has nothing to do with the author and the quality of the book, and they shouldn’t be punished for it. None of the printing issues impede readability. Hopefully the 4th edition doesn’t have the same poor print run.

Vast, Treasure Trove. No Printing-Quality Problems
This book is vast. It covers every corner of Game AI. Shows you robust implementations and additional notes of implementation variations and algorithmic performance analysis. It doesn't require any advance mathematics beyond of what you could get from a book like 3D Math Primer (and even in that case, you would only be using a small subset of that math). The pseudocode does have a few typos here and there, but nothing you can't figure out on your own. I think it's a blessing g that game developer have at their disposal a book with such a great coverage of modern AI techniques. The print quality was immaculate in my copy,which means the issue was resolved.

Printing quality pretty bad
The book itself is pretty good, although the pseudo code blocks are very hard to read as they are printed in a grey tone rather than black and the formatting is really wonky. For example, Page 51 the parentheses are really tiny and look like superscript in the printed version. If you look at the preview of that page here on Amazon, it looks fine. All of the pseudo code in the printed material suffers from this. Not to be expected in an almost $90 USD printed book.

This Book is Good for Game AI Theory not AI Programming
This book is good if you want to know what Game AI theories you can use even some pseudocode examples that you could probably implement to an AI code you already have.The problem if you are coding AI from scratch and that is the focus you are looking for this isn't the book for that.

5 stars for book contents, 1 star for printing and binding quality
The information you will find in the book is great. It gathers many topics and algorithms from Game AI and is not language-specific (though there are discussions on C++ implementation). The author goes beyond just explaining the algorithms and discuss things related to performance and how AI deals with other parts of the game/engine.While the 3rd edition has updated and revised content, I don't know what is happening with CRC Press. The book is very expensive (full cover price + S&H is half of the minimum wage where I live!) and one would expect it to be of high quality. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Again, the book contents are excellent, but it does not deserve to be so badly printed.Another reviewer already pointed out some issues, so I decided to add some photos to show the printing quality. I own a copy of the 1st edition and put it side-by-side with the 3rd edition so you can see the printing difference. Hopefully, CRC Press will start printing better books, as they did a few years ago.

Another reason why I like a good read
I bring this to my girlfriend's house for sleepovers when... I can't sleep. Unfortunately, this book is so good it doesn't help me get sleepy. Instead I stay up all night with my actual true love -- the maths.

Lots of Detail on Some Subjects, Not Much on Others
Overall this is a good survey of the field, and it dives deep into some topics (e.g. A*), but others it seems to barely scratch the surface. But overall, it does justice to its title, and is a good introduction to just about every subject in the field.

Ottimo per chi conosce già argomenti di IA classica, e vuole capire come trasferire questa conoscenza in maniera efficace durante la progettazione di un videogioco. È inoltre di enorme aiuto per dare un senso alle diverse architetture IA che si possono trovare lavorando in un videogioco.Invece, da quel che ho notato, lo sconsiglio per chi non ha mai avuto un esposizione decente ad argomenti di IA, il libro non mi sembra che chieda requisiti particolari in tal senso, ma nello spiegare alcune tecniche base (es. A*) salta alcune parti, forse involontariamente, pensando che l'argomento sia più o meno noto al lettore. Cercando di concentrarsi invece su come queste tecniche base possano essere impiegate (o meno) in un videogioco (es. Navmesh).

AI for Games - Excellent quality - paperback edition
I just received a paperback copy of the 3rd edition of AI for games from Amazon Canada. The printing quality is excellent and I am amazed at the content (mammoth size). There are quite a few changes and updates from the 2nd edition, although I really wish the author had included a preface acknowledging a summary of those changes.in my opinion this is the go to book for understanding AI in game development. It is comprehensive and well-written, providing pseudocode for many algorithms. I will update my review once I have had a chance to do a deep dive in the 3rd edition. Cheers!

Don't get the hardcover!
The binding of the book is very poor even though the contents of the book are amazing.Do not spend the money getting a hardcover, see images attached.
