Too hard for beginners
I am a music teacher, and I bought this to test out on my beginning choir class, based on positive reviews. I was sorely mistaken in this purchase - this is way too advanced and moves far too quickly for absolute beginners. I knew after glancing at only the first page that it wouldn't work for what I needed. I found that Sight Singing Made EZ volume 1 was a better fit for my complete beginners. Maybe after a while they will be ready for this book.

Very straightforward
I was looking for a book to help my beginner voice students learn to sight sing. I bought a few different books because I wasn't able to tell from the reviews which would be most appropriate for a non-collegiate level beginner. This one was far and away the winner. I highly recommend it for ages 11-16 (it's most likely great for everyone, but that is the age range of the students I have taught with it). My one caveat, though, would be that it does require a teacher to lead the students through this book. I'm not sure how effective it would be for self-educating purposes.

Name says it all
This starts with the very basics and walks through small steps. This process of repetition and review provides a great foundation, especially for those who have little or no prior music theory knowledge.

fast shipping, good quality
I had to get this book for school so I'm not all about it in any way, but the shipping was fast and the quality as expected so yay for that.

An Introduction to Sight Singing
I have used this book for years and recently ordered a bunch from Amazon because my local music stores do not always have it in stock and they take forever to get things in. I love this book because it is set out with simple progressive lessons. I get students to work on a lesson a week - They may work on all the exercises in a lesson everyday or a few exercises at a time in rotatation. In a short time they are no longer just sight singing exercises, but also exercises to help engrain intervals and solfegge names. If students spend just 5-10 minutes a day on the assigned lesson for the week, they can learn to sight sing quite quickly and easily. I have had great success with this book and recommend it highly.
