Great Starter Pen...
...that you can write with for the rest of your life.BLUF: Inexpensive to purchase, easy to maintain, cheap or convenient to refill with ink, robust, and available in almost every color of the rainbow, including a crystal clear version (Lamy Vista, which, surprisingly, still has that cut-out for an ink window!).This pen is suitable for students who are just learning how to write with a fountain pen, no matter the age of the student! The body, grip, and cap are made from textured plastic, usually opaque with a huge variety of color options. The grip is rounded, but has triangular lobes, to encourage the writer to use the two finger and thumb method of holding the pen, giving the writer optimum control of the pen with minimal fatigue. The nib is a standard Lamy steel nib that's interchangeable with every other Lamy nib, including their 14k gold nib, with the exception of the Lamy 2000 nib, which is unique in the Lamy line-up. Non-Lamy nibs will not fit on any Lamy pen, but why would you not want to use the perfect nib for that pen? This pen comes with a choice of standard nibs in <EF>, <F>, <M> and <B>. However, <1.1>, <1.5>, and <1.9> mm stub nibs, as well as a "Left-Handed" nib are available directly from Lamy (as additions to the nib that comes with your pen) for around $13 - $20 from some independent online fountain pen stores. Additionally, you can also put a 14k gold nib ($100 - $125) on your $30 Safari pen...the same nib as what's on the $320 Lamy Dialog 3, and it will write just as nice as that pen, but weigh less, and be less likely to fail (less complicated mechanisms = higher reliability). Cartridge converters are proprietary, but affordable at around $6 each, which allows you to fill your pen with any color ink you have. The Lamy AL-Star, an equally good pen, but with an anodized aluminum body and cap (and a smooth triangular plastic grip) is available for $7-10 more, but it's otherwise identical to the Lamy Safari.

Beautiful pen, acceptable price
This pen is a gorgeous shade of earthy orange with all black furniture. I love the sleek look of the black clip and tip against the body color. The pen arrived quicker than the date listed at checkout. It appears to be a genuine Lamy pen accompanied by a Lamy warranty card and a blue ink cartridge. I opted for the Z28 converter so I could use my Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo ink. I'm not sure if it's the ink or the medium tip, or the paper I'm using but it seems to flow very fast. This is leading to a much broader line than I prefer so I may try a fine tip and see how that works. I got this pen as a second "backup" pen to my custom turned pen with Bock hardware which seems to perform much better (at 10x the cost).I see why people favor this as a perfect "beginner" fountain pen. It's incredibly comfortable to hold. The matte finish is soft to the touch and the angled cutouts on the throat align the fingers to put the nib in a "just so" angle to write very easily. The only complaint that I would have (and this is a contrast when writing with my custom pen) is that is has a very light weight and you feel that in your hand. So much so that putting the cap on the other end of the pen actually pulls it quite noticeably off balance when trying to write with it. But that's probably a nit-picky complaint. Overall, it's a beautiful, and inexpensive way to get into the world of fountain pens without investing a ton of money. They make an aluminum version of this pen that I'd like to try that is supposed to be an ounce or two heavier and it's only a few dollars more expensive. I would definitely recommend this pen in any color, but this orange and black combo is the tits.

Buttery smooth
Very good daily pen. Color is very pleasing and has a nice matte/textured finish. I like the black metal accents. Medium nib writes buttery smooth. Great value for the money.

Nice pen
Very nice fountain pen. Writes really well with a very consistent flow. Write a bit thinker than expected but otherwise very satisfied with the pen.

Great pen for the price!
I've had Lamys before and always liked them. I bought this one as a gift. The recipient said it's very smooth to write with and uses it all the time. Would recommend.

Great pen
Used a black Lamy Safari daily, finally upgraded to orange (my favorite color). Description says the nib is medium, I received a fine nib. No complaints from me, I much prefer the fine nib. Pen arrived 5 days early, packaged perfectly. Would recommend these pens to anyone interested in getting into fountain pens.

Very nice pen, ridiculously low price!
Easy to fill, do recommend getting the converter. Fun to fill with in. Tried the fine bin but it wouldn’t write so stick with medium. Very nice pen, ridiculously low price!

Ink flow perfection
This is my second Lamy. I may never explore another brand again. I used the refillable cartridge and put Carbon Ink - waterproof ink into this one. I’ll be exploring drawing with it and some water color washes. The other Lamy I have I’ve had for years and use it for writing only. I used LAmy ink - and have never had any issues.
