No more dull pencils in my house.
I was always tired of picking up a pencil to find it dull. This now sits next to the pencil container and each pencil is sharpened after use, haven't had a dull pencil since.Probably overkill for the home, but well worth it.

Bigger than I thought, but I don't care...
I did not read the product dimensions on this before I bought, so I can't take any stars away from it for that. I was startled at its approximate 7.5 inch height and nearly 8 inch depth (with cord). It is about 5.5 inches wide. (all measurements are approximate. Measured with an old ruler.) When I pulled this out, I thought I would return it for its size, but I went ahead and gave it a try. Wow!I did not know how bad my OLD electric sharpener was until I used this one!!! This one sharpens my pencils so much faster! So much better! So much easier!Pros:Shavings tray stays put!!! Easy to empty! Many different size options for pencils!Quick! Wow it works fast!NO PRESSURE NEEDED! You do not have to push in hard at all! This is great for arthritis sufferers. I nearly had to lean on my old one to get it to sharpen from day one. This one is amazing!Sharpens evenly!! You do not need to rotate your pencil to get an evenly sharp tip.Cons:Size may be an issue for some, but it works so well, I decided I was absolutely finding a home for it in my house.I didn't think I would be so happy over a pencil sharpener, but this was a great purchase, and I am extremely satisfied!!! Would definitely recommend!

I am glad I spent a little extra on this X-Acto - ...
I bought this as an upgrade to my Stanley Bostitch Quiet Sharp 6. This X-Acto was about $10 more. I am glad I spent a little extra on this X-Acto - it was well worth it!With this new X-Acto, I sharpened 48 pencils, plus 8 dozen brand-new pencils without the sharpener ever getting hot to the touch. It literally takes about 2-3 seconds to sharpen a new pencil. As far as noise level - I would say it is comparable to other pencil sharpeners in its class, not necessarily loud, but noticeable when in use. I had the Stanley for about 2 years, and the newness wore off quickly. It didn't quite sharpen as fast as it once did, and I believe it got louder as time passed. It also burned out more often, but don't get me wrong, for a quick sharpen it still worked. With Stanley, I could get through about 30 pencils before it would get hot, burn out and automatically turn off.As a future teacher and current after school program director, the smart stop and blue LED light really excites me! Gone are the days of students sharpening their pencils to nubs. This pencil sharpener has the smart stop and the LED. The LED illuminates when the pencil is sharp, and the smart stop completely turns off the motor when the pencil is sharp. The only way you can continue to sharpen is by either breaking the lead to re-sharpen it, or continually sticking it the sharpener and taking it out. The sharpener has lost its appeal to students who just want to play or waste time. The only thing I dont like about this sharpener it the lack of traction. The Stanley did have little suction cups on the bottom to keep it from moving while inserting pencils. This sharpener has little rubber feet, but still moves around if you don't hold onto it.Also worth noting is the technique of twisting the pencil while it is in the sharpener. I've noticed for most newer electric sharpeners, if you don't give the pencil a bit of a twist while it is being sharpened, the wood will surpass the lead, which holds true for this sharpener as well.

and I am SO happy with how well it works
I bought this for my classroom, and I am SO happy with how well it works! Why do I like it?- It sharpens quickly. It is really fast! I can have 20 students sharpen all of their pencils before school in 10 minutes. They are required to sharpen at least 2 pencils every morning, but most of them have four!-It has a light that shines when the pencil is sharpened, so my students don't keep running the sharpener and hurt the motor.- In addition to the light, it automatically shuts off! This is a great feature considering my students have broken several sharpeners that I bought. It's such a great feature! No more buying multiple pencil sharpeners a year!- It sharpens to a fine, sharp point. The pencil point is perfect!!- It is so much quieter than any other sharpener I have used! It is NOT by any means really quiet. It is an electric sharpener with a motor. It is going to be loud. This is the quietest motor of any electric pencil sharpener that I have owned.- It can hold A LOT of shavings before it has to be emptied! This cuts down on the number of times the students have to empty it, and the number of shavings I have on my floor!I am very pleased with the performance and durability of this sharpener. I have used this for three months so far. I will update this review at the end of the school year.

Teacher Approved
I am a middle school teacher. I bought this for myself as an early Christmas present. My old electric pencil sharpener died, and my two largest classes were going nuts trying to use an old manual sharpener. It took too long, was way too loud, and it did not sharpen well enough to keep kids from complaining. In other words it was wasting way too much class time. The new E-xacto is quiet enough that I do not have to stop talking while it is running. It has a blue light that comes on when the pencil is sharp, and the motor stops automagically! If stops students from sharpening a pencil down to a nub, and it sharpens so well, that they don't have to stand there and try again and again to sharpen to their taste. The description said it was designed by teachers (or something to that effect), and I can only say that it is the best thing for my class since sliced bread. Well worth the money in peace and quiet and useful class time. My strongest recommendation.Well worth the money in peace and quiet and more

Product supplied is useless in Australia. We
Product arrived with a USA plug and requiring 120 v. So it does not work in Australia, despite being ordered through the Australian Amazon website. To get a refund, I have to return it to the USA supplier at my expense. This is absolutely appalling!

Same Sharpener as the School
This electric pencil sharpener looks just like you see in the photo. First impressions are that this is built to last. It feels solid and the weight of it means you don't need to hold onto it while it operates. It is larger than we expected as it is about 7" high x 7" deep x just over 5" wide. We bought this to replace an old battery operated one that died. It is nice knowing there are no batteries to replace. My daughter said this is same sharpener in her classroom at school but they need to ask the teacher for help in using it. She is in grade 2. We understand why because the motor is very strong. Turning the dial to select the correct diameter for the pencil is easy for a child. With a firm grip on the end of a pencil, start by pushing it in quickly. Continue to hold it while gently nudging it forward as you feel the blades shaving away the pencil. In just a few seconds the LED light comes on to let you know it is done. It took my daughter a few tries at first as she was tentative pushing the pencil in but got the hang of it after sharpening about a four to five pencils.Hopefully this sharpener last as long as the warranty as some other reviewers have noted getting warranty service in Canada is non-existent. So far so good and we are pleased with it.
