Not great. Bad translation.
One of the worst English-Spanish translations of all times. The book doesn’t really even try to translate, making it difficult to use in Spanish classes. I had to read in Spanish and then translate it myself in English. Also, the book has a detailed three page description of the day of the dead that it doesn’t even bother to translate. Lastly, it could do a much better job explaining why Central Americans celebrate their dead, plus use more vocabulary like ”altar” and ”Chrysanthemum.”Time for someone to write a better book.

Good pictures, bad story
This books is alright. The illustrations are really cute. I love the bright colors! The story however is not interesting at all. I'm an elementary art teacher, and I tried reading this with kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders. None of them were into it. It was a struggle to get through the book. I was excited about having a book in two languages, but the pacing was just off. The worst part was that the Spanish translation wasn't exactly the same as the English, and my English speaking students picked up on it. So, I would have to read the English text, read the Spanish, then say the Spanish again. The sentences are also really weirdly written. Overall, worth the $8 I spent for the pictures, but next year I'll be looking for a different book to read aloud. This is a dud.

I never heard of this book, but totally glad I purchased it. Great book to read if you’re teaching your children spanish. Great book to teach children about Mexican traditions.

Fun read for kids and adults
One of our children is adopted from Mexico. This book explains in a clear simple way what The Day of the Dead means and represents. We appreciate that it is written in both English and Spanish.

Great easy read and very colorful fun images.
My kids love having me read to them and this is one of their favorites. Like probably too many native Spanish speakers my kids don’t speak or read Spanish. They really like hearing me read to them in Spanish and frequently ask for this book. It’s colorful and short enough for bedtime. Also easy for them to follow.
