Q: How small are the holes?

Yes the mesh is 3/4". I used it to cover my strawberries

Q: Do you have suggestions on how to place netting over a large fruit tree and when should the netting be added?

Netting was added just before the fruit started to become ripe. When we started to notice birds and/or other animals interested in the fruit, then we added the netting. Placing netting over taller fruit trees usually requires at least two people, on ladders, to lift the netting high enough to go over branches.

Q: I have a problem with squirrels raiding my peach tree and emptying it out every year. Do/will the rodents get around or chew threw this?

Last year I lost all my peaches to squirrels and birds. I used Gardeneer Bird netting this year and didn't lose a single peach. My tree is only about 8-feet tall, so I draped it over the tree and secured the netting to the ground with tent stakes. I kept the netting loose and bunched neat the bottom which seemed to deter the squirrels from even trying. Worked perfectly.
