Discover Your Children's Gifts

Absolutely the most valuable book on parenting I've ever read. They say there is no manual for raising children, but I disagree. This is it! After reading this book and completing the questionnaires on my children, it REVOLUTIONIZED my parenting. I wish every parent on the planet would read this book. We'd have a whole lot less wounded kids out there... kids who are confident in knowing who they are and stand strong in that instead of trying to be like someone else.This is not a one-time-read book. You'll use it over and over as a reference book to help you understand the lens through which your child sees the world given his/her specific gifting. It helps you love them, parent them, motivate them, discipline them, have realistic expectations of them, even give gifts that hit the mark. It requires us as parents to go outside our natural ways of thinking and understand each child according to their gifting. I have found this to be an INVALUABLE resource.It also helps in marriage to understand each other's gifts. The authors have a book called "Discover your Spouse's Gifts" which is a fascinating and enlightening process to go through as a couple. I can't tell you how much this helps.Buy it, buy it for everyone you know. It's truly life changing information inside! I keep loaning my book out and it never comes back! So I've bought quite a few over the years haha!

We have had this book for years, and have recently revisited it's context. We feel it-and the book for adult giftings-is a needed tool to create church unity.Both books have brought information to light that has helped to free me from YEARS of anger at God for "making me this way." (I'm a perciever, natch) And how amazing that I can now use this information to help one of my own little girls-a perceiver herself-so that she doesn't have to do things the hard way like I did.The authors (A couple, so you get both perspectives) give lots of useful tips for what to focus on as you raise each type of child. They share what their possible pitfalls and also major strengths are, info on academic capabilities as well as possible professions and reading material. I feel like they cover it all. Don't miss the chapers on combination gifts, and conflicts between you and your child. Every parent should know how to minister to their child-there's a chapter for that too! Please give the information in this book a chance! It might just change your family, church, nation and world.

My late husband and I used this material to raise our kids. They are both in their 20's now, and very strong Christian men. The amplified version of Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go {and in keeping with his individual gift or bent}, and when he is old he will not depart from it." lets you in on the idea that we all come out of the womb with different giftings and bents. This book helps you understand your child's gifting or bent early and helps you not make mistakes! My oldest son and I share the Administration gifting. Without this book, we would have butted heads all of his life and I would have done damage to his Compassion gifting. We love to be in each others presence even now as I become a grandmother. His wife also took the test before they were married to help them understand each other. My youngest son shares the Teacher gifting with me, it is the know it all gift. We made it through loving each other more because we also worked on the negative traits together. For the adult, you need the other book "Discover Your God Given Gifts", so that you can take the adult test and grow with your kids in understanding yourself and them.

Every parent should have a copy of this book although it's not too different from the adult version. I tested both of my children when they were in elementary school and then tested them as teenagers. To see how they have developed in their gifts has been a blessing. This book has been passed on to other parents I know who were struggling with identifying their kid's gifts, but mostly lacking understanding of why there was so much opposition.

I am very grateful to have a book that explains how I can be a better steward to help my children grow into their gifts, and talents.

I enjoyed the book and on the whole found it helpful. However I will never ever assault (spank) my child. There are better methods of discipline than hitting your child. Perhaps the authors of the book could use some education in that area.

that I've seen. A good book to discuss in group and certainly has me assessing everyone I speak to at any length. The categorical way in which the authors describe the gifts helps one to digest the impact of the gifts given. The study questions are simple but thought provoking and encourages the reader to understand the attributes of the gifts. Overall a good study book for parents to read and discuss.

Fantastic book. It's very beneficial because it enables you to train your children in their gifts and nurture their weaknesses. Very good book for my parenting sessions.every parent needs to have one.
