If installing this under the hoodliner stops the heat from reaching the hood does this make the engine run hotter?

It will keep the hood from absorbing heat.In theory the hood is acting like a like a heat sink letting air flowing over it to help dissapate the hot temperature.But all it really does is deflect the heat down and around the engine.I used it on my hot running sports car and got no noticeable difference in engine temp.It did do a terrific job of keeping the hood from frying the paint.

For firewall application to reduce noise/heat would you recommend using Hoodliner on top of Dynamat Extreme or just this?

I recommend both Dynamat Extreme & this. That's what I did. It has held up now for nearly a year. That said, there was only about a 10-20% reduction of noise from my diesel. Most of that being higher frequencies. That's just the way of diesels though.

Does this work for high frequency eng/trans noise if applied to the floor boards or firewall and hood?

Not sure about high frequency, but it does muffle the engine noise. I have a cab forward vehicle (Jeep FC170) where the engine sits between the seats.
