Johnny Tremain: A Newbery Award Winner

It is not made clear, either in the description of the book or the many reader reviews, that this is a study guide for teachers only and not a Kindle copy of the original novel, Johnny Tremain. I expect it is an excellent guide, but if you are trying to find a Kindle copy of Johnny Tremain, this is not it! The contents should be made much clearer in the description or by downloading the sample.

Bottom line - this is just a rip-roaring good story told with an uplifting style. Full of patriotic prose, punctuated with both promise and, at times, sadness. I am sure it is considered YA but, believe me, it can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. I loved it and highly recommend it!

This is what I call a transformational book, a book where the main character grows. Johnny starts out a young, arrogant, and selfish teen, and becomes a mature, caring man. But what makes this book unique is the history! The author won a Pulitzer prize for an adult book about Paul Revere and Colonial America so she knew the period very well, and she helped me appreciate more the courage and sacrifice of my forefathers. Highly recommend.

A fictional story of a young boy in Boston prior to the revolutionary war. Reading it to my 8 year old grandson, and he is captivated. That is saying a lot as he has all electronics available to him.Want your son to feel like a hero? I’m a 67 year old female, and this story made me feel like a hero when I was 10. I cannot recommend this book enough. It holds up over time.

I bought this book and paid a couple dollars extra to put in my bookcase when my brother is done. I loved the design of it and the comics in the book. The story is really interesting and my brother has been obsessed with the main character. Then again he is a history junkie. The illustrations in the book were beautiful and helped him picture the story line before reading the book.
