Fantastic wildlife guide for the Arctic!!
I'm in love with this book! Having lived in the Arctic for the past few years, I have been on the hunt for a wildlife guide that doesn't just apply for one country, but rather the Arctic as a whole. This book does exactly that! This book contains information on mammals and birdlife in the Arctic, but also lists flora, fish and insects. The illustrations are phenomenal and you can tell the amount of work that has gone into creating this guide.

If you love natural history and/or the Arctic, you will love this book.
I ordered this book after completing a second summer in Nunavut studying shorebirds. Another person had brought the book up for the summer, and when I returned home I had to order it for my own collection. This book is beautiful and is a great companion for anyone interested in the Arctic. The guide acts as a "one-stop-shop" and includes identification not only for birds and mammals, but also fish, insects and plants - it is an extremely useful reference for a region who's guidebooks can be few and far between. Kudos to the author for choosing to include flora and fauna from both the Nearctic and Palearctic in this book, you get a real feel for the entire Arctic region that way, and it stokes the wanderlust. This item shipped must faster than the estimated time (I received it 2 weeks early), and it was a bargain - even with a small shipping cost it was still cheaper than running to the book store.

One Guide to Carry in the Arctic
The Arctic is a diverse place and it can be daunting to locate the information you need on flora and fauna without carrying a whole library. This guide does an amazing job of providing information on sea mammals, sea birds, land birds, insects, trees, plants, etc. in a series of sections. Within each section, the target plant or animal group is organized based on species type. There are drawings to aid identification, along with descriptive text, and maps showing where the particular plant or animal is likely to be found in the Arctic. The insect section is perhaps the least well developed, primarily because so little is known in general about the variety of insect life in the Arctic. However, the plant/flower section at the end is extremely well done. I highly recommend the guidebook.
