Devil's Candy, Vol. 1: Volume 1

Bought for my 13 year old. I can say its arrived in great physical condition. I'm not a fan of anime so I have no idea what else to write 🤣

When I got this book, I was surprised that it was published from left to right instead of right to left. It has everything else you would expect from a manga book except the right to left reading order. The art style and panel layout is fun to look at and keeps you entertained while reading the book. The characters are also interesting to read about. My favorites would by Kazu and Pandora. There is a lot of violence, but it’s mostly cartoonish. There are three main stories and a few mini stories in between. The book also has some note pages between each story explaining things to help the reader understand the unique world and its characters. I would definitely buy the next volume.

Web連載のアメリカン・コミックですが単行本が発売されました。同じ内容の単行本が二種類あります。現時点で二つとも和訳されていないので注意してください。作者がクラウド・ファウンティングで資金を調達し発売されたハイブワークスコミックス版とAmazon等で通常に発売されたVIZ版になります。前者はハードカバー版でオマケにカラーページのキャラクター紹介が付いていて、後者はソフトカバーでカラーページはありませんがモノクロのキャラクター紹介と書き下ろしの短編が付いています。作品内容で好きな点はキャラクターデザインが素晴らしい事です、特にファッションと日用の小物の描写が傑出しています。センスは日本の渡邊巧大氏に近い物があります。今ひとつの点はストーリーは日本人の感覚には少し合わないと思います。バイオレンスで理屈っぽいギャグだと言えば理解は出来るでしょうか？。それでも最近の内容は面白くなって来ていると思います。

This is so cool! The art style is wicked neat, and the character designs are super fun!Honestly, it’s super refreshing. A lot of manga and anime based around high schoolers (or younger, even) will shove fan service at you left and right. But! Not this. It was super fun to read, and I’m very excited for what’s to come with the series. Love Kazu!!

I've been waiting 18 years for this book! Ever since the two creators did the pilot version of Devil's Candy in TokyoPop's 2003 Rising Stars of Manga (and it was pretty much the only reason to get that particular volume), I've been waiting for more.... Hopefully the next one won't take as long.

I love the art, so i immediately had to buy this. Don't care. Can't wait for more volumes. I haven't even read it yet but I know I'm going to love it.
