Q: The description states indoor use only. Is there any reason why it could not be used outside provided the bulb holder provided a reasonable seal?

I can't see why not, it's a light bulb. It doesn't give off a great light just a glow, just like the glow of a string of fairy lights. Works great for me in an indoor lamp though. Hope this helps.
