The Magic Numbers - Advance

I was listening to XM Cafe one day in my car, and this group was live in studio. They played several songs before I exited my car and I was hooked! I went directly to my computer and ordered this disc. It has not disappointed. Their music is so surprising. Just when you think that the song is going in one direction, it totally evolves into a 'hook' that is at least half of the song. The harmonies are just fabulous, and they sound just green enough to give one the hope that the next disc will be better than this one. The song 'I See You, You See Me' has the clever give and take of two people who have crushes on each other, but have been friends first and aren't aware the each other's feelings have evolved into more. The violin music on 'This Love' intertwines through the song and is so plaintive and gorgeous and showcases the sheer musical genius of these four. My favorite songs are 'Don't Give Up The Fight' and 'Loves A Game'. All of these songs (as in many first efforts of groups) contain the hopes, feelings and pain of life experience in them and it all pours out into song. This is why every song is so special. This is the best group that you are not listening to.

Wow! It's so refreshing to hear this kind of music. It's thoughtful, musically interesting, and playful. There is a throwback kind of sound they have, like the music was hand-made if that makes sense. They play classic rock instruments and what sounds like little or no synthesizers. I got teh feeling I was listening to a band (a very good band) in their garage jamming for the pure joy it gives them. These are songs that mean something to them. They probably wrote them all themselves.The only downside to the album is that all the joy and frivolity gets mired in a few too many morose songs in the second half.If you're looking for something different from most everything else out there right now, you probably can do no better than The Magic Numbers.

How do you conjure up 60's sunshine while still being contemporary enough to crack the current market? They do as good job as can be done with that impossible task. Some of the slower songs a grating.

This album is sort of a typical album in the sense that there are a few gems surrounded by filler waste tracks. The good ones are great though, but so far I've only 5-starred one (Love's a game) on my ipod.Don't listen to all those who say The Magic Numbers have a sound from an older time. I never got that impression. It's just good music.

I would buy anything this band makes. As far as I know, they've only made two cds. If you've never heard The Magic Numbers, you're missing out! A very unique band... a real treat! I want more!

These guys are a huge hit in the UK, and I can see why. You can't help but feel upbeat when you listen to them. Their music is just plain FUN and a good pick-me-up!

I just wasn't inspired by this which was disappointing as I had first discovered them on TV and they were great, songs were good etc

I heard some songs by the Magic Numbers while away at my daughter's and really liked them. She had them on her I-pod so I randomly chose this CD when I got home again and am so glad I did. There's only a couple of songs I'm not too keen on but the rest of them are excellent. I had never heard of them before but I now want all their CD's.

Breathtakingly good album by a really talented and refreshing bunch of musicians. Certainly my favourite album of 2005 cant wait for their next one. It grows on you....not a duff track on it.Wonderful harmony , interesting lyrics and best of all tunes that will keep you humming 'em all day.Happy music.
