Marco Polo Season 1

Oh Marco!!! If only it was true!!!
One of the best series Netflix ever had. I refuse to pay for Netflix and their tired, trendy entertainment but was THRILLED to be able to buy at least Season one of this masterful fantastically made series.Actors are excellent. Despite the tales of Marco Polo most likely being fabricated, watching this series is a good representation of an historical fiction. Young Marco is played by a talented young actor and, thank the gods and goddesses, doesn’t have a British or pseudo-British accent. (Just that made me love the series.) The Khan is portrayed skillfully by Benedict Wong and he shows what a tough position Kublai was in with trying to be ruler of everything and losing the Mongolian ways.Magnificent cinematography and excellent story telling—for it is telling a story that is 98% fiction, but what a story. Love it. And now I can watch it whenever my internet connection functions. But do not get me started on THAT.

ADVENTURE AND PALACE INTRIGUES; ARCHITECTURE AND COSTUMES FOR LUSH DETAILS
Excellent series, even though the Chinese and Mongolians speaking colloquial English might take one aback. The sets and attention to detail are amazing. I taught English in China and saw such interior architecture in person. There is a look and feel to the massive wooden furniture that cannot easily be copied today. The actor portraying Marci Polo is fair -- if a bit too contemporary -- but the actor portraying Kublai Khan makes a compelling centerpiece, even with his remarkable English skills. Joan Chen, whom I used to have a crush on, portrays his wife with rather "mixed" tastes. The young lady passing herself off as royalty while harboring a secret lust for Polo, later to jump his bones after she reveals that she is actually a peasant, is lovely to look at, as are the other Asian lasses (dressed or undressed). As in this country, wealth and power bring privileges, and this includes one's tastes in concubines. This, of course, is fiction based on a real-life explorer, but the adventure and intrigues do make for enjoyable viewing.

Highly enjoyable, but with flaws in design.
Very enjoyable series overall. For my taste, there was too much talking and not enough action. We're talking about the Mongol empire for crying out loud, one of the most violent empires in history and there's maybe twenty minutes of fighting in a ten hour season that is set during a time when the Mongol empire is at war or close enough to make no difference. There could have been more martial arts training sequences, or battles, or assassins; dueling could have been a thing. Just something to break up the lip-flapping, whining and machinations. Again that is just my taste. My only other problem is the DVD case I got this in had all the DVDs stacked on top of each other. I don't think that a better designed case would be too much to ask for.

Season 2 ?
I bought this when it was released on bluray. Loved the movie so much I eventually watched it 3 times over 7 months. The Acting was brilliant. Especially the acting of the Chinese Jia Sidao who gave advice to the Chinese Empress. There is some nudity in the film for Kublai Khan concuppines. Now for the sad note. Season 2 was not released in bluray by Netflix. Just be aware you can buy Season 1 but not Season 2. Netflix will not release Season 2 in bluray. The only way to watch Season 2 is to join Netflix I really felt I was blind sided

Packaged Perfection!
I love historical epics, and this along with Rome are among my all-time favs. Fantastic series, perfectly balanced between drama and action, calm and tension. Not a single dull moment. Top-notch acting, marvelous set design, an OST to die for (adore the different ending theme each episode). The dialogue was spot on. Plus, for all the people conplaining about whitewashing / lack of diversity, well, here ya go!Wish there were more bonuses and extras - well, there are plenty but I just want even more! For once I actually wish there was episode commentary... Also, hopefully they'll someday release a complete boxset with nice packaging, like Rome's wooden book. Would make a nice collectible.

good sexy epic drama
i don't have netflix, so i had been waiting for this to come out on dvd/bluray for a year or more. i finally found it to buy on amazon. yay! i like it. i'm not sure how historically correct the story is. but i like the warrior battles, and the strategizing, and the codes of honor and the alliances and betrayals the martial arts battles, the confucian like words of wisdom from the blind kung fu master 100 Eyes. but i have to say, besides all that, what i really enjoy most about this series is the beautiful, sexy women getting gratuitously naked for my viewing pleasure!

Great historical series that keeps your attention peaked
This is a fantastic series. I am always a fan of historical based films and shows and this one does not disappoint. Even if you know nothing about this period in history of of the Khan dynasty you will come up to speed quickly. I don't know how accurate all of the details are but it very exciting entertaining and filled with beautiful costuming, complex characters and plot twists. I would highly recommend this series for anyone who likes history.

Buena serie!
Ampliamente recomendada, empieza lenta la trama, pero es por la explicación de cómo empieza su aventura, al final cumple con su objetivo!

A must watch for history buffs!
Based on historical events of Venetian explorer Marco Polo who kept a journal (original lost but 100 hand-written copies still exist). Fantastic season (can hardly wait for Season 2) with lush costumed sets and intriguing drama. Complicated story for western viewers not familiar with this era of history during the reign of mongol leader Kublai Khan & near the end of the Song Dynasty (circa 1275), so pay attention! Lots of nudity, torture scenes and horse mounted warriors. Fantastic special features including a very informative :38 documentary on the life & travels of Marco Polo. The large scale battle at the end of the season is awesome, there is also ample martial arts throughout the episodes.
