Great for senior dogs!
This was a birthday present for my lab mix, turned 14. She has always been obsessed with squirrels in the park, but she is no longer as young as she used to be so she can’t sprint after them anymore (she can barely see them these days). Her face when she got this was pure joy; she finally has ALL THE SQUIRRELS!!! We throw a few small cookies down the log and she goes to town. She adores it! Thank you for a brilliant soft toy; it’s making this elderly squirrel chaser very happy!

No squirrels were harmed in this review...
Our 3 year old Labradoodle (more poodle than Lab) is a "power chewer" - nothing escapes total destruction (unless she totally ignores it) so I was a little worried about buying this for her. I ordered the ginormous size to be on the safe side; it comes with 6 squirrels so enough for spares if some didn't make it to see another day (she gets through toys for strong chewers in a matter of minutes). We have been very controlled in introducing and playing this with her (we started with just 3 squirrels but she's worked her way up to 6) and she doesn't play with it on her own just in case, but oh how she loves it. So far we have focused on simply finding the squirrels with no need to load the tree trunk with treats. She has discovered the squeaks which fuels her play but she is also learning to 'give' and 'drop' (with treat rewards for safe delivery of squirrels); she is also learning to bring the tree back for re-filling. I don't doubt that, left to her own devices, this toy would be shredded extremely quickly; if your dog is so inclined, and if you don't have the time or desire to engage in managing their play then you might be disappointed with how long this item lasts. If you are happy to supervise/be involved in their play, then I'd highly recommend this toy.

Squirrels 🐿 galore! Hilarious 👏👏😂😂🐾🐾
Placed it on the floor with a few treats hidden at the bottom under the squirrels.... pups were totally disinterested... so I went out the room.... heard a few squeaks (squirrels, not dogs) and came back to find squirrels everywhere!!! The fact they squeak makes the dogs back off... then they come back doing an sas style crawl (dogs, not squirrels) for round two! My older girl rottie then picks up the whole thing and hides it when she’s decided she’s tired so no one can play any more.... 😬😬🐿🐿 Xx

This is the best and most loved dog toy ever!
My lab. has had it since he was 5 months old - he is now 1 year - and he absolutely loves it; it is definitely his favourite. He uses it for play by himself, to pick up and carry in his mouth when he’s excited greeting people arriving or coming down first thing in the morning, to nudge us into playing hide the squirrel with him (hide under pillows and squeak or stick your hand in the trunk and poke a squirrel out) - there are lots of ways to play. He did chew it at first, removed the cardboard base (but it still stands up so no problem) and tear it a bit, but it’s easy to repair and he doesn’t chew it any more. It gives him, and us, hours of pleasure. The best toy ever.

Unintended Consequence!!!
My son's yorkie poo stays at my place a lot, mostly because I take him to a nearby university campus, where, well-trained as he is, I can let him off-lead and chase squirrels to his heart's content. He is obsessed with squirrels now, so we thought this would be a fun Christmas toy for him. We followed the advice of other reviewers and supervised to try to delay the death of all the squirrels. We let him play with the tree trunk after he had rooted out all the squirrels and tried to kill them, as a dog will do. He loves the tree trunk -- so much so that he makes love to it every time we let him play with it. He is nearly five years old, and was neutered as a pup, and never was much for humping, but he goes after that tree trunk like a prisoner on a conjugal visit every time we set it out for him to play with. If we have guests, it's a floor show. He doesn't care. I'm not quite sure what to make of all this, but as long as it makes him happy . . . .
