... never used a sharpener before and I wanted something easy to start out with
I bought this sharpening stone because I’ve never used a sharpener before and I wanted something easy to start out with. I tried both the zigzag and circular motions. I found myself having fun with the circular motion – I got into the rhythm easily. I had one fairly dull knife that I wanted to sharpen. I used both the #300 and the #1000 sides approximately 3 minutes each. I used the knife to cut a tomato and paper before the sharpening and then again after so I could compare. The sharpened knife made a significant difference. The water bottle was handy for sprinkling water on the stone –easier and more precise than trying to use a bowl of water. The package is nice and compact for storage in my kitchen drawer so I won’t lose any piece. The instructions are very clear and it’s comforting to confirm that I am doing it the right way. Will definitely keep using this!

No difference between the 300/1000
I couldn't tell any difference between the 300 grit and the 1000 grit. They both felt and looked the same just difference in color. As the picture shows a chipped chef knife using the 300 grit and then the 1000 grit. Mine didn't change much if at all, still had chips like the picture shows. I followed the directions that came with the stone, but still no luck.

chipped on edge. just decided to use.
I got the stone today. but Chipped on Edge of 1000 grit. but decided to use.Return and Refund(or replace) is so annoying and takes time thats why.you will have to do more work due to stone size.No big difference between this stone and other stone.I have no clue if this stone was long enough....Picture. From left.Popular size whetstone, MOKUREN, 3.5 Inch paring knife, 7 inch chef knife, Schrade 12 inch (blade length of 6.4 inches) outdoor knife.

Excellent sharpener, no more chips or uneven edges!
The packaging is great, stone and bottle are snug in the box, but most importantly it works really well and was easy to use! I cook a lot and this knife has gotten tons of use so I'm excited that I feels like new again.Since a picture is worth a thousand words, the visual instructions really helped. I'm posting photos instead of a writing an extra long review. Photos include (in order):-packaging-instructions-stone-blade before (mini chips/uneven edge if you zoom in)-setup-blade after (smoothed out edge).I wanted to see for myself with before/after proof so I took photos to confirm and was really excited to see the difference!I highly recommend this stone for anyone.

The stone is pretty small for larger knives
The stone is pretty small for larger knives. It takes some getting used to sharpen knives if you have never done it before. There is a technique that you only learn by practice. You might be better of buying a set with at least two stones. One stone to level the actual sharpening stone. Everytime I use the blue side I just dull my knives so I only use the course grit for now. Maybe oneday I'll be skilled enought to use the blue side.
