I find this to be a well constucted,attractive unit, a very good productfor the price. I very much like the base attachment design which hides the joining of the flue and the cap somewhat. My unit will sit on a chimnet pot and it fits perfect for my size. The stainless is a nice heavy gauge and the all around finish is very good. I believe I read one reviewer who lost the top; it is attached by spot welding the mesh to the top and mine is very secure so I have no concerns. I have seen some of lesser quality for more money- I highly recommend this unit.

This is a very sturdy item, and very easy to install. I expect it will last for many years. Installation tips: Wear gloves, even though they were careful to round-over the edges I managed to find a sharp corner. I also used some outdoor lick-tite to lock the screws that hold it on the flu. I tried drilling a divot in the flu to better secure the screw, but the flu is baked way way too hard to drill, even for a masonry bit.

This product was purchased to cover my main chimney stack. I purchased a 12"x12" cap, but I received a 13"x13" cap. I was able to use the 13x13 cap by adjusting the 4 screws that was supplied. Additional work was required to propperly secure the chimney cap and prevent the cap from blowing off so I predrilled the chimney with a 1/4" masonry bit were the screws attached. I'm very pleased with the quality and construction and the overall fit and placement. Great purchase!

I ordered this cap and another brand in a size I did not see offered by this company. The difference between the two was obvious. While the other cap was adequate, this was sturdy, the screw threads were heavy duty and it came with 4 nice stainless screws with pointed caps. Now that it is installed it does not wiggle or yield due to cheap sheep metal and bracing like the other cap which did not even come with screws so I had to go to the box store and figure out which screws fit the flimsy threads of the other cap. I only wish i had seen both sizes offered by this company so I could have bought both this nice.

Overall this unit is well constructed and installs easily. However, I disagree with the comments claiming the steel is a strong gauge and the unit is a good value. Overall the unit is quite light---in the box I thought it was a new toilet seat I had ordered! This becomes a problem at the base of the unit: to get a tight attachment with the screws, the sides of the base deflect, i.e. bow out as the screw turns. The sides need to be more rigid to resist this deflection. I just installed the unit and I did not turn the screws in as far as possible because I didn't want the bowing to be visible; it remains to be seen if my attachment is strong enough to withstand winds. Well made, fit great and easy to install. Arrived quickly. I purchased three of these chimney caps.

That it is made of 300 series stainless steel was a determining factor in my purchase. This baby should last and no need to paint it, looks good as is and should not be painted in my opinion (for engineering reasons related to potential for introducing a corrosion that otherwise wouldn't happen).Installed easily with sturdy mounting fastners. Choice of using a wrench and/or screwdriver.
