I have more fun sleeping than reading this book
After reading this book for a university class of mine, I must say...That the context of the text lies in the text the author wrote when writing the text.In other words, while it does cover all of the material it needs to, it does so in the dryest of fashions. As an electrical engineering student, I've read textbooks on engineering more entertaining than this book. The dryness of this text, in addition to the over abundance of needlessly large and over complicated vocabulary makes this a book just begging to be read multiple times (in order to even understand what it's saying). The sentences are formed in a way that I can not determine if the writer was either trying to reach a word count, or just trying to make each line as complicated and "scholarly" as it absolutely can be.If I were to recommend how to make this book better, it would be to make the same statements and claims, but "dumb it down."

Scholarly, informative, challenging and eminently readable
This is a wonderful book - a clear-sighted, well-balanced and engaging overview of a medium that has attracted a fair share of misunderstanding since its arrival in the UK generated a tsunami of Press hysteria. Covering a broad range of sources and resources, acknowledging and valuing fan input to history without favouring it over the original product, it provides both solid scholarship and readable, thought-provoking analysis.
