The Book of Direction to the Duties of the Heart (The Littman Library of Jewish Civilization)

A good reference
The title is a translation of the text originally witten in Arabic into English. The title is known to many in Hebrew due to the classic translation of Rabbi Yehuda ibn Tibbon. Unfortunately, the meanings and usage of some of the words has changed and in some places it is possible to misunderstand some statements of the author. Notwithstanding a variety of the commentaries, a lucid translation by Mansoor does help to learn the important mussar text of Rabbeinu Bahya.

It is crucial to read Duties Of The Heart
I am not recommending this translation specifically, the ideal would be to read it in the original. There is a lot of scholarly improvements to this introduction - I would recommend Diana Lobel.Duties of the Heart is universal, applies equally to all mankind. The combination of Sufi mysticism and Divine Revelation is a sure recipe for much success!
