Newbie ... love it
I'm learning this at home. I have taken a few classes over the years. The foot peddle is critical. Don't go without it. There are lots of solutions for no batt pins. Just look at the videos out there. The hardest part is adjusting the height. I ordered a small stool from a local retailer and it was really inexpensive. On rollers and lever to adjust my seat height. I'd buy this again as I have thrown a few decent beginning pieces. I hope it lasts a long time!! Have fun with this!!!Update 8 months... I've been able to center up to 4 pounds of clay and have thrown almost 100 vessels. I am really happy with this and the quality and price is right. I did have to adjust the inside of the foot pedal when I was using it in cold conditions and it slipped its gear system but that was easy. Seems durable and working great.Considering the smaller wheel head size compared to professional wheels ( 12 to 14 inches) it means some tools like certain bats, may not fit this. The splash pan could be taller if you use a bat (on a throw pad or pins) but they do make extension tools and it's an easy DIY.

Good choice for starting out throwing
As a beginner, this was a great alternative to the more expensive model. While it does not contain the bells and whistles others may have it does what it is intended. There was a lack of instruction on setting up the belt which came detached from the machine which was a difficult undertaking but nothing unmanageable.I would recommend this for anyone looking to get into throwing pottery. You wont be able to throw huge projects but for a beginner or someone interested in doing regular to small sized projects it will work well. The biggest negative is the size. The machine sits uncomfortably low. I have propped mine up on a short table that allows for using a stool. Cant imagine a comfortable seat to use with this at it's normal height. But other than that, no complaints.

Gifted to Mom for Birthday
This was a wonderful gift for my mother on her 60th Bday. She always wanted to create her own pottery and this made her day. Very heavy, good quality, and great for beginners or hobbyist. You will still need a book to master pottery.

Does not work.
Does not work! After assembling it and turning it own nothing happens! Only a whirling sound but it doesn’t actually spin. This is a joke and looks so flimsy. Do not but even if you’re a beginner or buying for your children.

Possibly dangerous - Possible electric shock.
The machine is functional and appears sturdy however, there is no grommet on the foot-pedal-cord, merely a knot in the cable to prevent pullout.Having electrical cables run through a steel housing, that is used with water, without chafe-protection is an inherently dangerous assembly issue.Imagine, you use it for a while, the cord is minorly stressed (normal) each time you press the foot pedal. Then one day, while making your tea-service, your clay feels funny so you go to turn off the machine - and with wet hands you touch the 110VAC charged steel casing......A shocking experience! If the seller sends me the appropriate grommet (or refunds the cost of purchasing an appropriate grommet), I will change my review - but this is an issue that cannot be ignored.

Excellent wheel for mugs, plates, bowls, 4-6 lbs max
I've used this machine for over a year and have had no issues. The speed control is excellent and has plenty of power for smaller work. If I throw 5+ lbs of clay, I use my shimpo-whisper machine. I did drill 1/4" holes for batt pins but most of these machines don't come with them, and I highly recommend throwing on batts, if you can. I have this machine on a 30" table and stand throwing, which is easier on the back. The pedal cable is not very long but I actually put the foot control on the table and adjust it with my hand. Overall a sturdy, powerful machine and I'd buy another one again if I needed to.

Thuds and received dirty
Makes thud sound every rotation at full speed, noisy if you have downstair neighbors. Also came in used condition. yellow grease stains, used foot pedal w black marks, and overall product looked used.
