Holds up
Loved this series as a kid, and now reading it to my 8 and 6 yr olds at bedtime has been a blast. They absolutely love it, and I’ve enjoyed it too. Some bullying scenes that are hard, so make sure you’re ready to talk through that. Driving theme of the importance of empathy

Review written by Jordan F., a 5th grader in Mrs. Taylor's class
The main protagonist of this story is a kid named Rod Albright. The main antagonist is BKR A.K.A. Billy Becker. Rod is building a Paper Mache volcano when suddenly; a small rocket ship l full of aliens lands in his volcano. The setting is when he is about middle school age and he is mostly at his house but he goes to other places as well, such as BKR’s house and school. He eventually befriends the aliens and they have adventures like blowing up a house, lying to a teacher, and saving Rod’s younger brother and sister. The two most important themes of the story are honesty and making the right decision. I would rate this book at a four out of five. The book’s overall message is that cruelty is a crime and it is unacceptable. The author is very good at leaving cliffhanger at the end of chapters which is very good about him. I recommend this book to third to fifth graders who like action and adventure.

Fine entertainment for a beginning reader
This is a cheerful and well-written alien/space adventure that features a well-rounded and appealing young hero. Coville avoids the hip ironic sub-text that mars many early readers, and tells a straight forward story of adventure and suspense. I can see why a young reader would like this and would feel a certain sense of satisfaction after finishing it. There is also less emphasis on zaniness, (like, say, in "The Time Warp Trio" books), so you get the feeling you are reading a beginner's novel, with a plot, characters, tension and resolution. So, you get fun and entertainment, but you also get to read a real book. Not bad for beginners.

Nostalgia at it's best
This book is one I remember quite fondly. I read it as a child and loved it. In some ways children's books just eclipse adult novels because imagination is allowed to run free. This quartet is a great example of that. Great storytelling, interesting characters, a fun adventure all through the eyes of a young protagonist, Rod Albright. It was a with a smile I visited my thirteen old self and was all smiles reading this adventure. Bravo Mr. Coville, Bravo.

Started the series at 12... still a fan.
I accidentally read the second book before this one... I was SO CONFUSED! But I was just as enamored with the characters and starting from the beginning only made it more amazing! I now own all four.

Great book for 4th-5th grade readers
Great book for 4th-5th grade readers. A lot of action and humor. Bruce Coville is a fantastic author and you can't go wrong. Just so you know, this is the 1st book in a series of at least 3. Next is "I Left My Sneakers In Dimension X" and is also great.

Aliens is great.
This book is great for kids grades 3 to grade 6. It has a lot of twists in the plot and believable characters. Most chapters end in a cliff hanger leaving the child wanting more.
