Very poor quality...Does not work...Buyers please do not buy!
I paid a premium price for this plane thinking it will be the same quality as the export models. However, I was deeply betrayed, as the plane sent to me has a lot of numerous defects. The base of the plane is not flat and it is not square with the sides. I tried to use it, however it did not take any shavings from the wood. I then tried all possible settings by adjusting the blade iron and the dials, still it was not able to take any shavings from the wood. They have obviously sent me a plane that has failed in their export quality control. Very disappointed. I was also not allowed to return the item. Very BAD REPUTATION , DISHONEST PRACTICE FROM SOBA INDUSTRIES.

A bit steep price but excellent
Loved it.Had to return the first piece sent as was unhappy with the blade and as it had a small bump on the sole. The replacement is excellent. Needed to sharpen the blade before use. Capable of removing very fine shavings of wood as seen in the picture uploaded. One star reduced for very stiff movement of adjustable front sole and it’s adjustment knob. Am still struggling with it. If the seller is charging nearly 7k for the plane, expect more finesse from the mechanisms.

Lack of quality control
I suspect rejects are being sold to Indian customers. The piece I got , the bed was incorrectly machined , consequently you cannot get the blade cutting edge parallel to the sole. The blade advance and retraction system, even Tarzan would have a hard time making it work. it's so stiff. There is hardly an space to get your fingers in.The blade had two blue spots at the ends meaning it had overheated and lost it temper during the grinding process.I didn't bother to check the flatness of the sole or the edge retention of the blade as I never got that far.Mine sits on the tool shelf as a piece of decoration. A waste of money for me.

Excellent plane
I bought this from Shobha Industries directly. It is much easier to buy from their Amazon storefront than to coordinate with them over the phone, so it’s great for woodworkers that they’ve listed it here. This is a replica of the Stanley #62 Sweetheart plane. The build quality is excellent, as with all the Shobha industries products I’ve bought so far. I’ve docked them one star because the screw that advances the plane blade does not move smoothly in the groove in the blade needing the blade to be lifted up each time it has to be moved forwards or backwards. I guess with a little judicious filing, this problem should go away, but not acceptable in an item at this price and bearing the Soba brand name. One expects the high standard they are obviously capable of producing. The blade takes a razor sharp finish with a progression of water stones and leather stropping with a sharpening compound, sadly none of which are available in our great nation. The plane works extremely well on softwoods and hardwoods alike, making short work of difficult grain or even when planing against the grain. I paid 4366 in Dec ‘17. At the current list price it’s almost the same price as the Stanley #62 in the US. An excellent tool, despite the minor issue I have had with mine.
