The thermometer does not include an alarm.

Same button, temperature range is -58 to 572F so you should be covered for candy and meat as well

Q: Can I use probe as candy thermometer

I used mine for both deep frying and making caramel and it worked great. It's got an automatic shut off to save the battery. Just have to make sure that the plastic at the top does not touch anything too hot or it will melt.
