Brilliant, I read it in one sitting
The Lotus Eaters marks the first in a planned series of bite sized books. Books that are meant to be read in one or two sittings. Having read The Lotus Eaters in one sitting I can definitely say that it matches this description.Sometimes when an author decides to move to novellas for a book or two the writing suffers, as the author tries to change style to match the shorter form – in this case while the writing felt a bit different the quality is still there. What we have here is a story that has no filler. Everything that happens here is important and gives us a clear picture of who the characters are.It is, of course, the briefest of glimpses at John Ryan’s past clocking in at under 70 pages, but for fans of the series it sheds immense light on the character. Even if you haven’t read the series of books this novella links to it is at the very least a fantastic novella. With all the capers of alcohol fueled sex and violence this is a story that will keep you entertained for 60 minutes or so. At the very least it will keep you on your toes for an hour. Highly recommended.
