Q: How do you open the celtic knot necklace?

It opens on the side, the opening is on the bottom of the bail. I had a hard time at first too.

Q: Is it really lava stone or is it some fake rock thing?

I have strands of lava stone in black and brown, this looks/feels similar; however, the colors are not natural, so I can't say for sure! I used the body of the dream catcher to make my own charm necklace and have not used the stones.

Q: Is this locket free of lead & cadmium?

I believe so. There's is some tarnishing and I would not suggest getting the necklace wet but it's still very nice.

Q: Did anyone have a problem with the necklace itself changing color especially with it plated?

You have take it off the chain when what to change color or add oil.
