My 6 y.o. grandson is really excited about this chess set....totally enjoys it. I find it hard to remember which "mario" character is what chess piece, however, and depend on the names on the base of the pieces for help. They are simply raised letters "KNIGHT" and the same color as the plastic base so a bit hard to decipher in play. Lots of color on the board!!!!

7 year old nephew loved learning to play chess and super mario is the best way for him to keep interest in developing his thought problem solving, pieces are well designed and were instantly a hit.

Purchased this for my twin boys (10yr) birthday. The characters look reasonable, but are made using a pretty poor quality injection moulding technique that shows the seams and feels a little flimsy on some characters. The colour application bleeds in a couple of places on some characters too. My boys love it, but I am less impressed given the cost.Most disappointing for everyone was that one character broke (see photo) while playing the very first game and it wasn't through mishandling. I will be able to reattach it with glue, but I expect better quality for the price.I would give it 2 stars, but my boys do love it and have played numerous games in the two days they have had it already.I will try and reach out to the seller - but given they are in the USA and we are in Australia I am not expecting much 'after sale' service. I will update here if they are responsive.UPDATE: This item was sold by Amazon and the only fix was to return it, which would have cost more than the effort to fix with glue! Glue it was.
