Customizable lighting without the need for base stations. Some learning curve but cool features.
I've been using this bulb for almost a month now and I thought it would be a good time to write a review. The Good:Ease of Use: This bulb is an easy plug-n-play solution for customized lighting without the need for any base stations. Getting started was pretty easy... Plug the bulb in, download the app, and connect. Bluetooth can be pretty touch and go in my experience but I was pleasantly surprised that the app found the bulb immediately. I was able to change the brightness and color of the bulb less than a minute from plugging it in for the first time. Once you choose the color you want, you can set it as the default and then every time you turn the light on, the bulb will automatically go to that color.Color Customization: I used this bulb in a bed side lamp and was able to tune it to a color that was very close to the other lamp using a normal warm white bulb. The app allows for grouping of bulbs so if you have many, you could group them by room and control all at once.Light timer: I'm gone on weekends a lot and the light timer feature is great for keeping my house looking occupied. I have cheap mechanical timers for other lamps but I like the software solution here. The Bad:Price: Definitely a higher priced bulb than I have in other parts of my house but you would buy this bulb for its features and not for value. On the one hand I like the idea of being to customize the colors of the bulb but the cost is a bit steep when the bulb is warm white 99% of the time. Probably not worth having just one but if you had 5 or more, the features would really start to add value. Some Learning Curve: Initially I was irritated that every time I turned the light off, the bulb lost the color I set it to. After a little research, I learned that you need to set the default color. This is partially my fault since there is a big "default" button next to the color wheel in the app.Support Resources Seem Lacking: The knowledge base provided by iLumi is really limited though I'm sure they would respond by email with help. I think a forum would really help here."Shake" Didn't Work: I thought the shake feature would be amazing for controlling the light in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, I was never able to make it work with my android phone.Summary:Cool bulb with tons of features but with some learning curve. The knowledge base is basically empty but they are responsive to email. Easy to integrate a single bulb with your existing lighting and though I only have one, I'm sure it would be easy to integrate an entire room full of them. The colors are really easy to customize and very vibrant!

Very bright; fully illuminates a small room
I first bought a new ilumi bulb at Best Buy for $49.99 on January; I bought a second one here at Amazon $34.99 under used condition. Now there's each one for the living room and bedroom. I will advise to buyers after downloading the app and registering the bulb-- the bulb must be reseted by unplugging and plugging back the bulb 5 times until it prompts different colors. At this stage, it is ready to be paired and detected by the app (this method is usually implemented when you're wanting to change the hours to the on/off power schedule as well, unfortunately). Although the app could definetly use a big update, which is why I'm giving the item a 4/5. Aside from this, the bulb is very manageable and appropriately bright at its highest 100% setting. The transitions to every color is very smooth as the app offers nuermous color scheme effects. I would recommend this bulb if you're wanting to use one for a small bedroom. If you're looking for a home set or something to light multiple rooms strongly recommend the Phillips Hue, which offers dynamic features and and reliable controls and tools. The ilumi is best for 1-2 rooms and it is Bluetooth enabled. Phillips Hue requires a network-connection hub (it must be plugged into your home network modem). I hope this review was helpful and recommend this bulb if you're wanting a change in your bedroom, a bit tech-savvy and patient because the app carries limited accessibility and you'll need to work your way around it. For example, i set a schedule time for the light to be turned on at 5:30pm but because of long summer days I wanted to change it at 7:00pm. Changing the hours through the app didn't work so I had to reset my bulb to re-arrange the schedule. Again, the app needs a serious update.

Amazing, when I ordered this I wasn't sure what ...
Amazing, when I ordered this I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I received it and took it out of its box, I knew I was holding something that is very well designed and thought out.Hardware:If I could describe the physical properties of this light bulb in one word, it would be Quality. The product has an excellent weight, and nothing feels cheap from how it is constructed to the materials chosen. It doesn't feel like it is going to break or come apart, very solid and reliable. The brightness of the light is nice as well, only ordering one of them and replacing 4 LED light bulbs in a fan fixture with only one bulb, I could notice a slight difference but amazingly still lights a larger room with no problem. The colors it produces not only fills the room but is completely customizable, literally any color you want and you can even change the saturation and brightness of that color with a very intuitive and easy to use color wheel.Software:The Ilumi app in one(or two) word(s) would probably be Thought out.Setting up the light bulb was as easy as making an account, with only an email and password in which I have not received any emails or spam from, and connecting to the bulb by taping and naming it. The app interface is very similar to apple design but with a dark theme, if you are using an iPhone or IOS everything here will feel very comfortable with siding to turn on and off lights and features and holding down to edit names or delete the bulb from the app. Even is you are using Android it is very intuitive and easy to use while still giving full control. While I did have some crashes with the app and did unload its self from memory (unsure if that was Android M or the app) occasionally making some features less convenient, which can be fixed with updates, the app still is nice to use and still does everything as advertised. The Features that this bulb offers compared to some other smart bulbs are great! They work just as you would expect them to and are versatile, you can set up times that certain lights change color, turn off, etc... I found torch, where as you walk into a room the lights turn on and when you leave the light turns off, the alarm, turns on the lights to wake you up instead of an annoying sound, and shake to turn on/off to be most usefull for me. Other features like music sync and Circadian (changes the light color throughout the day to feel more natural, which I kept on) work as you would expect even offering more configuration like the type of music your playing. While I wish the music sync provided more app compatibility with apps such as YouTube Music and Soundcloud, I'm sure that's something they can do in the future.Overall this is one of, if not, the best Smart bulbs on the market especially for the price.
