A very encouraging book for women and men alike - even to those who aren't naturally hospitable
This book is so inspiring! Love the way the author writes. She is not condescending, but encouraging and she uses Scripture to bring out our mission as Christians to open up our table to others. (even gives tips and ideas to people who aren't naturally hospitable!) Also, as an aside, my husband (an introvert) has loved reading this book as well and is shocked at how he too, despite his introvertedness, can reach out to others! I have loved this book so much, not only have I purchased it as gifts for all the important women in my life, but I've been considering hosting a book study with some other ladies. This book is definitely growing the Kingdom!!

Eye-opening, challenging, full of truth
I thought this would be a dry, preachy description of "hospitality as a social grace" one should develop, but wow was I wrong. The author uses "the table" as a metaphor throughout this well-organized book, showing me just how unique and yes, divine, gathering at the table for a simple meal can be. She showed me that our dining table may remain unchanged, but our gatherings around it over the years may be for sharing, for comforting, for teaching, for healing, and for revealing our true selves to one another.Ultimately, "Jesus wants us to anticipate the delights of glorified table life in heaven." This book opened my eyes and expanded my vision of Him and of 3 pretty important times of every day I have on earth.

Unexpectedly Rich!
I will be the first to admit that I tracked down this book because Beth Moore quoted from it in her Deuteronomy lecture series! Moore's recommendation ensured a quality read, and yet the depth and insight and even provocation of this book surprised, soothed, delighted, and challenged me. I am a wife and mother who has always worked inside and outside the home in some capacity and who happened to grow up in the 1960s and 1970s when home-tending was often disdained. But in raising four children and having their friends circle in and be drawn by something cooking or simmering or baking, and then to have them sit and confide and let themselves be embraced all while not even knowing what they were Hungry for? Thompson's book not only had me smiling in recognition and dog-earing pages of ideas, but she also pushed me into praying outside the brownie box. She redefined the word "hospitality" for me and prompted me to courage in reaching out to fill tummies and hearts. Bravo! And now if I can only find enough copies in print to give as Christmas gifts...! (I understand a second printing has been ordered.)

The Lord's Table in the Center of Your Home
This book was recommended in a Bible study I did several years ago. I've been waiting until I could order several for the girls in my family. I think every young woman, whether single or married, should have one of these. It's beautifully packaged and beautifully written.

Refreshing and Insightful
Table Life is a beautifully written and beautifully laid out book about the joy and delight of shared times around a table. It's rare to find a book on the home that has something interesting and challenging to ponder. This IS that book. The author's style is easy to read and fresh in its approach. The theme of the book is really about how much God likes food and being with people around a table. How cool is that! This is NOT a how-to book on hospitality though it has helpful ideas and recipes. It is NOT a guilt-inducing treatise to move us to shop for the food, cook it up and make sure our friends see the inside of our house. It IS a warm invitation to use this gift of gathering to bring goodness into our lives. "God, who made food for our provision and pleasure, made the table for our souls." This book is a soul feast!I heard about this book from a friend. I bought one for myself and one for a friend. We've both loved it. It will make a great wedding shower gift.

Great read for the true meaning of hospitality
I have not had a chance to review the whole book, but I made the purchase after Beth Moore referred to it in her Deuteronomy bible study. I am not the most hospitable person and I was looking for a book that would help me in that area. From what I have read , the focus is not so much how to make a gathering perfect but how to make it a time of worship and fun.

You're never too busy--Good stuff
I really enjoyed this book. It talked about how we were created for fellowship, to sit around a table and enjoy food and company together. This book helped me see that I’ve been too busy for too long to invite people into my home, and I’ve made an effort to change that. Good stuff.
