The story flows effortlessly. Dr. Winmilawe's use of transition words makes this text a perfect resource for teachers to use in their classrooms when modeling sequence of events and "how to" writing to young writers. The vocabulary is awesome and affords young readers the opportunity to dig into new words from another culture. The text is also great for teaching children to recount stories from diverse cultures, and determine their central message or moral. It can also be used to get children to answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Another teaching point of this text is describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. These text features make this book a must have in K-3 classrooms implementing the Common Core. I give this book 5 out of 5 STARS!!

Nicely done book. Filled with rich colors and the story was short, but at a good pace for my kids. Looking forward to subsequent stories on the topic.

I love this book!!! It gives such a great experience of African culture. The story holds a very young child's interest yet is rich in language for early school age children. I recommend this book for children of all ages!!!

Prior to my children being born, I felt there had to be children stories written by African authors somewhere out there. This was the first book I came across and it doesn't disappoint. Its a great story that my children enjoy being read to them over and over again.

I bought this a gift for my Godson's son. He loves it and so do I!! A wonderful multicultural introduction to Yoruba traditions.
