I Love Patchwork: 21 Irresistible Zakka Projects to Sew

Lovely projects, easy to use, one caveat
The linen/cotton projects in this book are lovely and fresh. The author has a beautiful sense of style and whimsy and I've already pre-ordered her next book, sight unseen. I've made 3 projects from this book and found the instructions easy enough to follow (I'm a beginner). I gave the book only 4 stars instead of the 5 that I think the projects themselves deserve because 2 of 3 three projects I've done so far had errors in the instructions. I think this was just sloppy editing. For example, the placemats instructions say to cut a 12 1/2" x 10" square -- and it should say 12 1/2" square. I discovered this after only cutting out one placemat, thank goodness - so I didn't waste that much fabric. Also, the fold up eco bag, in instruction #1, says to fold over one long edge -- when I believe it means fold over one short edge. At least that's the way it makes sense to me - I had to rip out a seam. Those errors made me nervous when I started my third project (with a zipper!), but it went smoothly with no problems. I am still a big fan however and will make several more projects from this book -- rare for a sewing book to have so many great looking projects. I wish Amazon or the publisher's website had an errata page for editing errors caught by readers!

EEEK- I love it!
Yippee! Finally a sewing book that has something refreshing and new, but 100% achievable and fun to read at the same time. As soon as I put the book down, I wanted to run to my sewing machine and make the Little Lamb Softie and the Sewing Machine cover, and the Lap Quilt. Rashida includes great information about linen and her resources sections is excellent. There were a couple of projects that were not for me or I had seen elsewhere, but for the most part, some solid projects, a great voice and a design aesthetic that is flawless. Much better choice than the Zakka Sewing: 25 Japanese Projects for the Household (Stc Craft) which I thought was hopeless.Well done!

Lovely small projects.
It is a nice book but not what I expected because it was small projects. I would say it is for a beginner. Very nice though. I should have read the description more carefully.

Little Lamb Softie is SUPER cute!!!
I'm not too crazy about most of the projects in this book. . . But the Little Lamb Softie is to-die-for!! I'm super excited to make this one!! Also, I like that they give instructions on making yo-yos.. . . Even though most of the projects seem pretty sleepy, I'm still happy I bought this book.

Loved the previous book but...
I loved the last zakka book Coleman-Hale put out with entries from other makers. I made a few projects out of them with little difficulty. This book had excellent instructions and illustrations and even included little snippets of the maker's history with sewing. Out of the 21 projects, only one interested me. It was a bit of a bummer after getting such inspiration out of her last book.If you are looking for some solid instructions on how to make basic patchwork patterns, this is the book for you. The instructions are clear and the illustrations are helpful. If you are looking for some more inspired projects, look for her previous zakka book.

Beautiful book!
A really lovely book featuring some great basic and unique projects! I turn to it all the time for gift ideas! Rashida's instructions are clear and easy to follow! In addition to the fun projects and well-written instructions, the book is simply beautiful to look through, with large photographs of the projects! :)

Not quite what I expected
I am primarily a quilt sewer, but my first love is making little girl cotton dresses to give away. I have a lot of material scraps from quilting so I was looking for different ways to use the scraps in dress making. Most of the fabric used in the book was linen, which is not a material to be used in children's simple play clothes (linen does not wash well, wrinkles badly)but the ideas put forth in the book for little projects were good.

Wouldn't go past the second date
I had high hopes for I Love Patchwork. The front page looks bright and cheerful, but apart from the coaster set there are only a couple of projects not incorporating "the beige". I'm aware of Rashida's love for linen, but apparently there can be a bit too much of it.The projects are "cute", but out of 21 projects I would make only five. This is a matter of personal style, which I won't remove stars for. What makes it a three-star book for me is the lack of photos or drawings. Challenging techniques are mostly described in words and for me this is related to cookbooks without photos; it's not fun. I'm a visual learner and the structure of the book doesn't accomodate that at all. As I see it, if it's intended for intermediate sewers, techniques wouldn't be described, so something is missing out of my point of view. I appreciate the numbering of steps, though, because it makes it easier to keep track where I'm at in the pattern. As another reviewer said, this doesn't feel like a patchwork book to me, but rather it should be marketed as a book on sewing. For instance the way to make half-square triangles is to cut a square in two, then piece two half squares together; ah the joy of bias edges.

Thoroughly modern Patchwork Book, great fun and lots of projects.
I have only just received this book. It came extremely quickly. I have had a look through it and can already see lots of projects to have a go at. If you enjoy sewing and patchwork this is a good book for you embracing the new Zakka trends with lots of fun and up to date projects.
