EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
The project was to attempt to restore a 20 year old leather living room set that included a love seat, sofa, and club seat. The leather was very well worn with normal wear and tear from decades of use, and covered with cat scratches and claw marks in the top corners where the cats went to town slicing up the leather. No cuts through the leather, but surface pretty chewed up.First up was to clean the leather starting with the love seat. From my past experience, I use a 1:5 mix of Woolite (laundry detergent) and water. One part Woolite and 5 parts water. 100% isopropyl alcohol also works well and neither will harm the leather. Once cleaned, I trimmed the leather claw rips just to flatten the leather with a razor, scissors, and sanded it down. Not perfect as there were a lot of deep claw marks, but better than it was. Another wipe with my solution and waited for it to fully dry. A hair dryer would speed up the process. I have to mention that this is a very important step, so clean as well as you can. Honestly, I was 50/50 on the outcome so I just did an adequate job and not deep cleaned it.Once everything was fully dry, it was time to try the Balm. Instructions basically said if water doesn't bead up on the leather, don't use the product which I immediately disregarded as I knew any liquid will have soaked in, and the other point was to use a very thin coat rubbing in a circular motion. This last instruction was key as the product dries very quickly, and if you have a thick application as you are applying and it drys before you get back to it, it will streak and result in an uneven color. So, the trick is to just dab a small amount on the supplied foam pad and work only in a 6" X 6" area as fast as you can and keep on rubbing, blending as much as you can even if you have to move outside of the 6" x 6" area. Just keep on rubbing until you achieve a uniform color. Then move to the next area. The coverage is very good and what you are trying to do is to blend the balm with the leather and surrounding areas. If you see an area that needs a bit more, you can just go over it again. It drys fast, and I experienced about 5 minutes to be dry to the touch.I started with the back of the love seat. And would rank the repair as follows. Normal wear and creases were completely restored, cat scratches were covered about 95% on the first coat, and while the claw marks were well colored, it didn't make them disappear nor did I have expectation that it would have. But it did camouflage the damage better than I expected and would have been better if I prepped the area better, but the silicon I use to seal deep scratches in leather didn't react well with the balm as it tended to bead up unlike the spray dye I use for car interiors. But it was ok. As you can see from the pictures, the normal wear and creases were colored very nicely, and even the cat scratches covered up well. Just the deeper claw marks where it cut into the leather didn't disappear, but it did look presentable. The color was not exactly the same as my original couch, but it looks nice, and with all the crease and scratch marks gone, it is so much better. From what I have seen of this product, it is definitely not a dye, rather some kind of thin silicon glue mixed in with color. While not exactly like water, it is more viscous than a gel or paste. I noticed that when I had some on my hands and washed them, the product came off in rubbery strips. I also had a glob on a piece of paper, and I was able to lift it off intact and there was no stain on the paper. But I did try rubbing it off the leather after it dried for about 1/2 an hour and it holds, so good cleaning and prep is imperative. Also, using a white paper towel with hard rubbing, there was no color transfer. From experience, I use a thin layer of RTV silicone to remove creases in car interiors before dyeing, and with proper cleaning, it will last forever and never had one lift. With all this said, no product is perfect, nor are there any easy fixes, and don't expect your leather to become brand new again. If you expect to simply just wipe it on and forego any prep work and cleaning, then this is not for you. But this product is good, and with enough elbow grease, you can achieve a very nice result. Took me a half a day to do the loveseat. Would I buy this again? Yes, and I have, as the container they give you gave me one coat on my loveseat and it took 1/2 the container. I figure what was left would do the club chair and then a new container would do the sofa with extra for later touch ups. But remember, thin coats and lots of rubbing and don't let any globs sit for any amount of time. A second coat may make it better, but the first coat looks good enough. So far, it has cured for about 12 hours, and while the leather still feels soft, it is just a tiny bit more stiff than before, but then again, I haven't used any sealer or the mink oil it comes with which I will be trying after 24 hours. I also use Aerospace 303 which you can get here on Amazon which is a UV protectant and sealer. Highly recommended and something I use on all my leather products with great long term results. Good luck and I hope this will help some of you out there :D.

So far , amazing, but sold as a balm , so spilled a couple ounces when opening .. ackk!!!
I could have dumped the entire contents in on the carpet , they need toWARN US THAT THIS IS LIQUID and not sell it in a paste style can as if itwas some kind of wax on product.Still shaking from this experience ( in my mind) , the marketing people needto have their licenses (lol) suspended., for missleading anyone that readslabel and looks at the container;''Leahter and vinyl recoloring balm kit'' come on, total deception. The dye itself should be in a bottle, or a huge disclaimer in red;Caution; Liquid DYE!!!!!!

Easy way to refurbish expensive leather
The product was easy to use once I knew which sponge to use for each product. The one that looks like a powder puff is what to use for the dye and the sponge is for the mink oil. Be sure to mix the dye thoroughly, I made this mistake and it was very dark at first when I did a patch test. This project took about two hours. Definitely use the gloves provided. If you get some on your skin use alcohol it come right off. I started with the back of the couch to master my technique and after a few trials, round circular motion with brush like motion worked best. My couch has some porous areas so the circular motion worked best. On the flat areas that are not porous, the brush like motion was best. The first photo was after placing the dye on the back, of the couch, arms and bottom. You can see the difference of what the color was during the project. Overall I give this product five stars!! I highly recommend. Give it a try!!

Thank goodness for 91% alcohol!
The product applies easily. It is not as easily removed. Had I known the finished product would be as sticky as tape, I would not have purchased it. I used this to redye two leather car seats on a 22-year-old collector car. I followed the exact instructions, even waiting days to reapply and then apply mink oil. I thought everything looked great. A month later the seats were very sticky. I feared the absolute worst. 91 % alcohol, four hours of careful rubbing, and no small amount of cursing eventually removed the product.

Pleasantly surprised
I was a bit sceptical about whether it will leave stains on clothes after application. I was pleasantly surprised when it did not.My couch had little white spots here and there, it covered them and gave the leather a nice shine. That being said it wasn’t too black to a point of being weird.I recommend it for small spots here and there. But if you have real big spots, this might not work for you.

Mix it First & PRACTICE on something to get even coating
Ok… so, I’m sure on saddles & other hard leather surfaces, this is perfect. Unfortunately, my couch is old and worn and a little dilapidated, so it made application a little difficult. I didn’t realize I needed to stir the product before using it, as it came out almost black until I was almost finished and realized within the canister it was dark in some places and red in others. Once I mixed it, it came out more evenly. If you look at my couch, you can see the left side looks lighter than the right with less spots.Tips:1) Gently mix/stir the balm until you get an even color2) If leather is worn/dilapidated try to pull the fabric taut, to try to get an even application3) use VERY VERY thin layers in a WELL LIT area, so you can see what you’re doing.4) If you mess up, 91% isopropyl alcohol will remove it, if it’s dried. My couch is normally a brighter maroon color, so I purchased the dark brown because people said it has a red tint. The last picture is the couch before application with the “new to me” recliner sectional I recently purchased. I intentionally wanted the couch to appear darker to better match my recliners. Again, the left side turned out pretty even, but the right side is going to see its fair share of alcohol today and attempt at a “redo”.***UPDATE***I used 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and was able to buff out the areas that were too dark. Again, this intentionally was not an exact Match, so it did turned out a little “marbled” but I am happy. (last pic is after I buffed out excess)

Careful with the liquid . Great product though
Very liquid as people have also mentioned . Some tips . Cover the entire area with a night coat else only the patch repaired will stand out. Soaks well and the mink oil is a great conditioner. Use make up wedges to apply the dye . Wait for one coat to dry and then apply another . Follow it up next day with a mink oil conditioner. Refreshed up our sofa to look like new .

This is more of a burgundy brown with a slight orange tone.
Like the other reviews this is more of a burgundy brown with a slight orange tone, if you are looking for chocolate this is not it (did not match my upholstery but it is what it is). As to application, I suggest using a cloth instead of the sponge and building up from very thin layers, it is more like an acrylic paint vs dye as it sits on top of the leather, suggest getting/using a leather conditioner, mink oil can harden leather over time.

Renewed and refreshed in a few easy steps
We had a couch that was looking a little worn and so I ordered this product. It came very quickly. The dye itself was like liquid honey. The directions for use were a little vague but I just winged it. The dye covered very well using the foam sponge included. It was a little streaky on the first coat so I did a second coat. This seemed to even the color. I then applied the mink oil. I applied this fairly generously and allowed to dry. I am so pleased. It does not feel gummy. It refreshed the previously tired piece of furniture

Not Dark Brown - Disappointed
I have a two tone dark brown leather couch that has a bit of fading....bought this product to recolor it. Followed instructions and stirred it first before applying in a small area and thought it should get darker but it's not. This is a red brown. Do not buy this if you want it for dark chocolate leather furniture unless you're doing the whole thing.
