Oklahoma Joe's Wood Smoker Chunks, 8 lb, Hickory

I ordered these pieces of hickory because I wanted something to use that would impart good wood-fire flavor to my grilled foods without having to spend too much on a small quantity. This is a large package for a good price (at the time of this review). The wood does not seem to have any characteristics denoting lower quality than hickory you'd use for any practical purposes. The flavor was great. I'd say one thing that I personally enjoy about the product was that it includes different sizes of wood, so you get to select the thickness of wood chunks based on your needs. A lot of the time while grilling, it's good to have different chunk sizes because they will impart the flavor over time, rather than all at once. One of the issues with the finer wood chips that are popular is that they are often uniformly thin, which means they burn quickly. With a variation in chunk size, you get some pieces that burn off quickly and some that burn more slowly, thus imparting your wood flavor over more time.

Great flavor and burn time. The chunks are similar in size so you can estimate when more are needed. I use these with Cowboy wood lump charcoal on a OJ Longhorn grill and everything i smoke turns out great! Highly recommended, although my first order from Amazon delivered a bag that was all taped up. I weighed it though and it was heavier than what i ordered so i didnt ding them for it. I have been buying these from Menards and other local stores and this is a bit cheaper.

love the chunk wood for long smokes

One of the best I've ever used, this hickory chunk had different real good flavors at almost every other bite. Kept shaking my head. Good amount of chunks in bag, all you need is about 2 to 3 depending on ya cook. I had 3 spare ribs that I used 3 then later 2 tri tips that I used 2 chunks. AAA+. Highly recommend.

Very pleased with the hickory smoking Wood and Chips. Mostly large pieces that I can split to smaller if needed. Was somewhat concerned about small chips as other reviewers had posted. Good value for the money too. Will mix soaked pieces with some dry for longer smoke time.

This is inaccurately advertised as 8-pounds of wood. My bag came in at just a bit over 7-pounds. Its wood - hopefully hickory as advertised. Good large sized chunks for smoking.
