It’s never too late to start getting into your best shape
A few years ago I had a trainer. I did a lot of the workouts in this book. I had a good momentum and really, at that point, had I kept going and improved my eating, I’d be in great shape.I stopped because I was going to have surgery and I was confused about the type of workouts I was allowed to do prior. There were complications after and, well I wasn’t active prior to having a trainer and it’s hard to get going again. Add to that the 8 weeks of mandatory inactivity post surgery and months after that of other medical complications and all of my growth seemed to go backwards and didn’t stop.Working out had helped with aches and pains because of increased blood flow and an overall healthier lifestyle. Now, I’m 38 and i have the health complications of a woman in her late 40’s if I’m being generous.Even when I was seeing my PT I did what she told me to do but didn’t necessarily understand why. On days when I didn’t see her, I did the same routine maybe every other day and I neglected cardio. This book covers why it’s important (especially due to my body type) and a super key thing I never grasped: when best to eat what before and after a workout, and guys...while you’re on the treadmill you can have a sweet treat 🤯. Nothing do do with “you’re burning it off as you go”. Nope. Much simpler: it could give you a blood sugar spike that pushes you through to a more intense workout.Because I haven’t moved my body in a while (let’s pretend I’ve been locked in my house all year because of a plague of some sort and took advantage of that time to eat whatever and whenever I wanted without trying to stay in shape) I did some of the stretches. In and of themselves, they are a workout. Low impact counts! I figure once I can do them comfortably without pain I will move on to the movements of the exercises. Now, as I was looking through the exercises, I started to crave the gym which is a good sign. Because I don’t want to risk the gym, I was happy that he included modifications for doing the exercises at home.I’m motivated but working out for the first time in years is intimidating. I want to lift as much as I used to and move how I used to. Instinct is: you know you can do it so do it. Well It took time to get there and I was starting in a different place. This book does a lot to acknowledge and validate that bodies change as they age. It also empowered me to accept that but not limit myself because of it. I was motivated before, but now I have hope.I started doing the stretches and plan on including lunges and planks regularly throughout the day to work on balance and core strength. I forgot how hard lunges are! Now I know why my trainer had me do them in all different directions with jumps in between. It’s hard and it works everything! Well, once weights were added.I can get back to when I was proud of how strong I’d gotten. I can even get past that to where I would be if I’d been in a position to keep seeing her. This book reminded me of that.

Informative
This book was very informative on what types of exercies and how to do them. I thought the book was laid out well and the whys to exercise. Especially being older it is nice that this book is geared towards a more mature crowd, I will not say old. I learned things I did not know. Great book.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Average book
It covers basic of the work outs. The summary programs per week was very compact and difficult to track and apply. I think if he organize the exercise programs for just home and just gym, that would be more beneficial and practical. Since some people prefer to do work out at home only.

Great Resource to Get You Started on Your Journey To Good Health
I am in my late 30s and have gotten to the point where it is extremely difficult to lose weight and firm up. Over the past several years I have watched my grandmother’s body deteriorating due to inactivity. This led me to start looking for resources to help someone middle-aged get healthy, in which I found “Fitness Over 40”.One of the first things the author does is helps you identify your body type and then gives specific exercises and nutrition guidelines for your specific body type. I like that this is not just super generic instructions in a “one size fits all” approach. The author uses illustrations for some of the exercises. I found it to be very helpful to have a visual as to what the exercises should be done.Although the book puts a lot of emphasis on exercise, the author does touch on other things that should be incorporated to achieve an overall healthy lifestyle.I like that the author does not focus on the restriction of food and over-exerting yourself with physical activity. This is a very good resource for those who are middle-aged or older and are looking to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

Fitness Over 40
All I can say is Wow!! This book was so informative. As a person who has reached the wonderful (NOT) age of 40 and has a hard time maintain a healthy weight, diet, and exercise regime, this book was a wonderful read. I loved all of the information that was packed into this book. I have definitely seen results since beginning this book. I cannot wait to see where my journey takes me.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fitness Over 40!
I am over forty and have been trying to come up with a good workout routine to strengthen, build and tone up. I picked this up as an advanced company and I am glad I did. It's goes into good details about exercises and muscles each uses. It even has pictures and good descriptions. My favorite is the workout program. I have started following it and have noticed a difference already. If you are over forty and trying to get in shape or even stay in shape this is a good plan. *I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*
