Men's Duffle Coat - Toggle Coat

I have a very nice English Made John Partridge Duffle Coat that I bought around 12 years ago and wanted another one. Typically a Duffle runs big, because it's made to wear over other clothing, like a lighter jacket, sport coat, or heavy sweater. Despite consulting the size chart and garment measurements on the Montgomery website, the coat did not fit me. The actual garment measurement was 5'' smaller in the chest compared to what was posted on the website.Another thing: the coat I received was an obvious return that had been worn by someone. There was a rumpled piece of trash and 2 or 3 Starbucks napkins in the pockets. Definitely NOT what I expect for a coat at this price. The retailer and Amazon really need to get their act together. Not sure if I will attempt to exchange for one that fits or just give up on this.

I had been searching quite a while for a nice duffle coat, and am really happy with this one. First off, it's made in England, which is a huge plus. Secondly, while it has a bit more polyester in the blend than a Gloverall duffle coat does, it is significantly less expensive as a result. It also has a slightly more modern fit than a Gloverall, which I like. Overall, it is a fantastic duffle coat that hits all the marks perfectly.A word on sizing. I am 5'10" tall, weight 160 lbs., have a 31" waist, and usually wear a 40R jacket. I bought the Montgomery coat in two sizes - 40 and 38 - because I wasn't sure which one would fit better. The 40 was definitely too large, but the 38 fits perfectly in the chest, shoulders, and torso. Originally, duffle coats were designed to be rather large and to fit as such. Today, though, people tend to want a more flattering look. If you are a bit thicker around the torso or if you plan on wearing your coat over a blazer or sports coat, then I think going with your usual size should be perfect. However, keep in mind that, like traditional duffle coats, this one isn't lined. As a result, it will be a chore to get it to slip over a sports coat. I don't plan on wearing mine that way, so I decided to return the 40 and keep the 38, which fits nicely even with a thick wool cardigan underneath.Like traditional duffle coats, the sleeves are on the long side. Again, this was how they were originally designed back in the day as well. The sleeves hit me right about at the base of my thumb bone. For my tastes, that's too long, so I took mine to a tailor to have shortened by about 3/4". As for the overall length of the coat, it hits me a few inches above my knee, between mid-thigh and knee length. That's exactly perfect for me.Overall, this is a fantastic coat. I would highly recommend it! Sizing is between spot-on and one size too large, depending on how you intend to wear it.

First off I just want to say that this duffle coat feels like a rare find! I first saw a picture of a duffle styled coat and I only found a very few companies that make one like this - that and the only comparable one is made by Burberry but will run you about $1,000 so I'd consider this a steal.I was expecting to wait a while to receive the product - wrong! I ordered my product and received it within 5 days (including the weekend) from outside of the country to the midwest of the US. This is my first time receiving a package shipped via DHL and it has been the best shipping experience I've had shopping online in the past 3 years - I was able to change a deliver address at no extra charge and they even called me when they were at my front door.Now onto the coat.The coat is a stunner - it was actually a bit big and I was thinking of exchanging it for a smaller one. So I brought it to a place in town that does tailoring and 3 of the 4 people working asked me where I got the jacket - it's August and it's already collecting complements! I got the charcoal colored coat - I will be ordering from Original Montgomery again, maybe next time I'll get the camel colored one. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to a friend or do business with these guys & girls again.

I've wanted an authentic British duffel coat for years and finally splurged on the Original Montgomery. This is, without doubt, the very best and most durable garment I've ever purchased. I looked at more expensive versions and finally settled on the Original Montgomery. I cannot imagine what more I would have gotten for double or triple the price from other manufacturers. All I know is that this is the warmest and heaviest wool overcoat that I've ever owned while also being the most comfortable.There were many reviews that quibbled about sizing and I'm not sure what that is all about. I wear a 42 and ordered a 42 and it fits like it was tailored for me. I'm 5'8" and 175 lbs and this coat runs exactly to my knees. The tartan lining is incredibly warm yet very soft and comfortable. The thickness of the coat is easily 1/4" if not more and, with the spacious attached hood, is downright toasty in the cold weather. I also love that it's totally waterproof!Needless to say, I am thrilled with this purchase which, with Amazon Prime, arrived in two days flat! HIGHLY recommend the Original Montgomery if you're looking for THE authentic 'original' British duffel coat that will last a lifetime!

....and by that I mean that it is made out of double-faced wool, and does not have the tacky acetate lining that you see on "copies." I also love the buffalo-bone toggles. I also appreciated very much Amazon offering the possibility to spread the payments out over 12 months, interest free so long as charged on the Amazon credit card. It was a gift for a friend who has to be more careful with his money, but who cares about his looks and keeps himself in shape. He lives in frigid Minneapolis so I cannot really see how it looks on him, but he is a very handsome man so I am sure he will get a lot of attention in this camel-colored coat. I have told him Merry Christmas 2020, Happy Birthday 2021, and Merry Christmas 2021.

I ordered the 50", not because that's my actual size, but because as a tallish chap, I need the length in the arms and body. I have both of these.The material is of a good quality but there are a few things which are not so good:-1) The toggle ties are made from leather and are going to be the first to go.2) I think it could be at a cheaper price, it's ok, but not outstanding to be in this type of price range. (My work colleagues were surprised by the amount I paid - £50ish was the agreed estimation)3) The wallet pocket is too low and small to be of practical use. This is a big problem for me personally.Since writing this, I've given the coat away to a female relative. This was due to point three - as there is no lower bottom toggle the bottom part of the coat flaps open. Due to the wallet pocket being low and far too small, my wallet was poking out the top. In the center of London at Christmas time, I might as well have a sign above my head inviting all pick pockets to come and do their worst. ALSO since buying, the price has dropped! (Still not enough though, it needs to drop another £60 or so)

Duffle coat arrived quickly and was as expected. The hood looks odd when up but is unlikely to be used unless really cold and then it doesn’t matter what you look like! Great length.

I like this coat and it is a present for my husband who also likes it.The fit is good and the sleeves are slightly long as to e expected as it is the long version.The material is lovely and look forward to wearing it when it gets really cold at Christmas. Lo

The coat arrived promptly on the next day. The quality, colour and finish is very good. Unfortunately I have to return the coat as the sleeve is not long enough. It was about 1 inch shorter than needed to have a great fit. This was a size 36 for someone who is slim built, 6ft 1in tall with long arms.
