Q: Will this work on titanium?

No. Titanium is colored by a reaction with an electrolyte and different voltages. It does not take dye.

Q: What is the half-life of black dye? Mine has gone off after a year.

Check with your dye stock's manufacturer tech support - they get paid to help you, and a usually very responsive due to most enterprises scaling tech support staff by support calls answered and resolved. Indefinite shelf life on metal acid/organic dyes if sealed in airtight compatible container and refrigerated. If you do see what looks like chunky stuff in the dye (this is mold), skim off any surface stuff and filter before use. Always mix dyes with distilled water for maximum shelf life, and use a distilled water rinse and good agitation between each step in the anodizing process to avoid contamination of dye by chemicals used for the etching and/or desmutting steps. I suspect most dye solutions that seem to stop working over time have seen a pH shift and chemistry change due to contamination, rather than degradation of the dye solution itself.

Q: For better color results, is there a sealer other then water?

A 15 minute soak in a nickel acetate sealer at 165 deg F, followed by a room temperature deionized/distilled water rinse will do a more consistent job of sealing than hot water. The Nickel Acetate MT-90 sealer by 'Anodizing Dye' is relatively inexpensive, with $15 worth of concentrate making two gallons of sealer. If you've done a good job of prep (degreasing with Simple Green and acetone, etching with a lye (NaOH) bath, desmutting with 10% nitric acid in warm water, and anodizing in 15% sulfuric acid bath held at 70 deg F with an ice bath), the dye should have been readily captured in the open pore structure of the anodized surface layer of the aluminum. The subsequent nickel acetate sealer soak will be much more effective (i.e., deeper, more even color saturation) than a plain hot water sealer.
